Came across this and thought we need a little humor during out frequent breaks from studying......we need MORE breaks than the youngens.....you know what I mean
Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things.
The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987 . They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
Their lifetime has always included AIDS.
The CD was introduced the year they were born.
They have always had an answering machine
They have always had cable.
Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.
They never took a swim and thought about Jaws!
They don't know who Mork was or where he was from
They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane".
McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.
They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter
Save the earth. It's the only planet with chocolate

we actually had a party line in 1985 a new house we moved into for a year we had to put up with that until the phone co caught up with the growth.LOL someone said about smoking in the stores I forgot about that.
and no seatbelts and we would ride in back of pick ups and a road trip meant blankets and pillows laid out in the back of a station wagon with the seats folded down.
I remember the rides in the back of the pickup laying down and looking up when you went under a bridge:lol2:
Does anyone remember doing drills in case of a nuclear bomb, in school? I remember in elementary school, the alarms going off and we had 3 seconds to huddle under our desks. The teacher would clock us. We would listen to talk about if the Russians were going to start nuclear war from parents, etc.Speaking of which, I have to wonder, how would a child huddling under her desk be protected if a nuclear bomb went off?
lol think "Red Dawn"

This thread is too funny!
A few months ago, there was a movie on TV, and one of the characters mentioned a pay phone. My 9 year old daughter said, "A pay phone? What's a pay phone?" Now THAT made me feel old! :chuckle My husband and I have found more and more things lately that show just how much things have changed. I remember when we started dating in 1996, that it seemed strange he had to have a pager for work. Now, most people have cell phones with them 24/7.
I remember jelly shoes, jelly bracelets, going with my dad to see E.T. in the theater, rolling jeans, rolling shirt sleeves, Mr. Belvedere, ALF, Kate & Allie, Diff'rent Strokes, "grody", the beginning of the Cabbage Patch Kids craze, when we got our first computer - the Commodore 64...

What a delight!! :heartbeat
I was a teen in the 70's and would not change it for the world. I do remember when JFK was shot. We were dismissed early from school that day. I was in the 3rd grade. They did not tell us why we had to go home. But, when I arrived, my father was already home (which was unusual) and it was the only time in my life that I saw him crying. I was able to make the connection many years later. We had our struggles but it was a different world. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

I remember all of those shows, and electric company was my favorite (with spider man). I don't remember zoom. I do remember those jelly shoes. I wore them to six flags and they melted....no joke. I also remember the Valley girl phase where we wore purple/green/orange together and thought it looked great. Weird looking mini shirts, leg warmers and gag me with a spoon. We were so dorky.
