Came across this and thought we need a little humor during out frequent breaks from studying......we need MORE breaks than the youngens.....you know what I mean
Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things.
The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987 . They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
Their lifetime has always included AIDS.
The CD was introduced the year they were born.
They have always had an answering machine
They have always had cable.
Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.
They never took a swim and thought about Jaws!
They don't know who Mork was or where he was from
They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane".
McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.
They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter
Save the earth. It's the only planet with chocolate
I think it has kept me young.
LOL! You are young! I'm 46 and I figure I'm only about half done with this planet.
I'm just finishing my pre-reqs and I'm the oldest one in the class. Last semester there was another lady in her 40s. Everybody else was 20 something. No matter. We all work hard and have a little fun when we can.
I can say I do envy their skinny little behinds, sometimes...
Here are my "oldy" memories:
1. Drive-in theaters were very popular
2. Batman and Bewitched were two of my favorite shows
3. My mother had a page-boy hairdo and sometimes she'd whip it up into a beehive.
4. People used to put on their Sunday best to go out shooting.
5. My little brother and I used to fight over who got to lay in the back window of the car whenever we went somewhere.
6. Everybody smoked.
7. Hippies lived at the end of our street. VW bugs with peace signs and all.
8. We had a VW van at one time.
9. I remember our first color t.v. and I used to love how the announcer would say "Now, in living color!"
10. I had metal roller skates that fit over the top of my shoes.
11. Easy Bake ovens were high tech toys.
12. I was two, almost three, when JFK was shot and I remember it.
13. When the first men landed on the moon, my friends and I went out that night to see if we could see them up there.
14. Our house had one phone and one t.v. in it.
15. When AIDS hit the news people were afraid to swim in the public pool.
16. Cigarettes were 50 cents a pack.
17. I remember sitting in the gas line in our one gas station town during the oil embargo.
18. Sodas were a quarter out of the machine.
19. I remember when my dad got so upset because candy bars went from 10 cents to 15 cents and they were 3/4 of the size they were before.
20. We played outside all day.
21. My dream car was a Nova.
22. My grandparents always ate their dinner in front of the evening news.
23. We ate all three meals at the table - unless we were in school, then Mom packed our lunch.
24. There was no such thing as a Lunchable and we felt sorry for the kids who had to eat cafeteria food.
25. There were only two fast food restaurants in our town and neither was a chain.
26. I had a record player and I was very jealous of my cousin's record collection. In high school, I got a stereo with a turn-table and an eight track tape player. I also got a "hanging chair." My friends were jealous of me.
27. I listened to The Carpenters, Black Sabbath and WAR.
28. Hip huggers were hot without butt-cleavage and shorts were hot with your cheeks hanging out!
OMG.... I remember riding in the back window of car. If there were seat belts we didn't use them. Other things I remember....
1. Riding in the back of a pick up was ok for kids.
2. No such thing as a bike helmet.
3. Trampolines were all square, and there was no protective netting.
4. No cable until I was 12...only channels 4, 5, 8, 11, and 13.
5. All channels went off at midnight or around about.
6. Cartoons where only on before, and after school, a couple hours on Saturday.
7. It was a big deal when Wonderful world of disney came on each Sunday night, and Wizard of Oz came on once a year.
8. There was no such thing as mini blinds.
9. No microwave until I was around 12.
10. No DVD's, no CD's just cassettes, and records. I can even remember when I was really young 8 tracks.
11. Eating captain crunch out of the box while watching Scooby doo on Saturday morning.
12. The word terrorism was a word that you associated with another country far away, and usually involved an airplane, and hostages.
13. It was unheard of to take a knife or gun to school. If someone didn't like you you would "meet after school for a fist fight".
14. Your pants stayed above your underware or you wore a belt.
15. Your pants were usually so tight you had to zip them up while laying on a bed with a coat hanger. Then you couldn't pee or eat all day or you wouldn't be able to get your pants fastened again.
16. NO INTERNET
17. My first computer when I was 14 was a TRS-80.
18. No Cell phones.
19. When I was young the only phone in the house hung on the wall, and you had to stand up while you talked.
20. My first phone was Mickey Mouse.
21. As soon as I woke up on the weekend I threw clothes on, and went out to play. I only came in when someone made me.
22. Kool-aid out of dixie cups where our juice boxes.
23. The series soap only came on after 9pm because one of the characters was gay (Billy Crystal).
24. Facts of life was my favorite show.

I am at the end of my pre reqs, and it seems that at least 40% or more of the people in my classes are all over 25. A good number over 30, and even a few older than me LOL.
I have always thought it was cool because I would have three lab partners in my major science classes, and a lot of times they were much younger than me. I would forget they were 21, and they would forget I was 36. We learned a lot from each other, and a few of us are still friends. I think it has kept me young.
