Holy Name Hospita has a diploma program for RN's and LPN's. You should apply soon, they may have the application on their website, if not - they can mail one to you. When I applied there - they still required interviews. That was in 2006. The cost is somewhat over $20,000 for the 2 years, and that was not all inclusive. You could make it an Associated degree program if you took a couple classes (provided at their campus) from another school (I forget which one). It supposed to great program, but when I applied there I also applied at another school which was significantly less cost. You can do a search for their website - Holy Name Hospital Teaneck NJ school of nursing Bergen Community College has a 2 year associates degree program. I am currently in my last semester there. It took me 3 years since I took a year to do all the pre and co-req's so when I strated nursing classes, I only had to do nursing classes. It is very competitive to get in, the basically go by test scores, and although you have to be invited to test - I really am not sure what the criteria are. I had a 4.0 gpa - but there are a few who came in right from hs, and some I know who had 3.8, and I believe even 3.7 gpa - but again, I am not really sure. You can get an application to BCC on their web page - for general studies, then you apply separately for the nursing program, and when accepted - they change your major automatically. Applications for fall 2009 are due soon, maybe March 1 or March 10 - check the web site, or google Bergen Community College nursing program, and it may bring you to BCC nursing page. The secretary's name is Angie, and she should be able to help you with further info. Many times we get our pt information when we arrive at clinicals, and get report along with the staff nurse. The explanation we rec'd was due to relatively short hospital stays - getting your patient assignment early would most likely result in that patient being discharged before you even get there. The only time I was lucky enough to get pt information early was in my psych rotation.

FIND ANOTHER REFERENCE NOW! I had this happen to me, and I never heard from that professor and it ended up too late, and had to wait a year. I feel like that one persons lack of follow through put my life on hold for a year.

We had a different book for Fundamentals but for the Fundamentals and study guide, calculate with confidence, pharmacology, fundamentals success, labs book, I paid 365. (approx) Don't remember what I paid for Physicall Assessment. I also don't remember what I paid for a nursing care plan book - but I bought Doenges, and I have never used it - the other books are better, so save your money and buy something else to start. I guess you are looking at areound $500 total. Don't buy from the bookstore - they are too expensive. If you have a BN membership - they are reasonable. If not - try BN, textbookx.com, cheaptextbooks.com and other websites. Always go by ISBN, not title. Someplaces - you did not get the CD's with the book (which can be very helpful). AT BN, I did always get the CD. I also always get the study guide with the book, they are usually very helpful - especially for GI/GU (level 2) but not so much for maternity (level 3)

I have the Littman Classic, and it works fine. However - I don't know if it works for that strange hearing disorder "tuneroutitis". Don't go too crazy - you won't need top of the line for school. The classic should be fine - but like I said, many of my classmates are happy with the one Belles sells for around $25.00

You will need to purchase a steth separate from the kit - it's not in there. Belles has steth for around $25, you don't have to spend more. Unless you want a better one. I have a hearing issue when there is background noise - so I bought a different one, that cost more. There are several places online that have good prices for steths, but many of my classmates bought the $25 one at Belles and are happy with it. Kit contains practice meds, gloves, gowns, foley it, suctioning kit, stuff like that. In the real world, they are disposable. But for nursing students, we use them over and over again. When you have your skills tested, you normally use your own supplies.

This was the procedure when I was accepted into the day program: For the unforms - go to Belles in Paterson. The address is on the paper. This way you can try them on, and if any adjustments need to be made, they will make them (hemming, etc) You also get your name tag there. You may also purchase your shoes there, which is convenient. For the kit, send a check to the address on the paper telling you about the kit. The its are delivered to the school. There is usually a date on that sheet of paper of when your check must be received, for you to receive the it.

You will go Monday thru Thursday nights. There are 2 sections (601 and 602) Check your PM - I sent you the 601 schedule, but there was no room for 602. Of course, it is subject to change. See how tight the schedule is - that's why students enrolled in the night program have to have all their non nursing courses done beforehand. Yes, clinicals in a hospital - with a real patient. When I was in level 1 - I went to St. Joseph's in Paterson, but they may have level 1 students going to an assisted living facility - as the clinical spaces for schools are hard to get - with all the hospital closings - all the nursing schools are trying to get the limited clinical spaces left. Many people work and go to nursing school, and some with children. Your child is always a priority - but try to get help if you are the sole caretaker for your child at home. You WILL need time to study.

Yep, need to do all of that - but get your background check started right away. If that is not back you will not be able to register. There are usually 2 sections sthat start each semester - if you have a friend in one, you can try to pick together - other tha that - I just went by which schedule I liked better. The kit is a nurses it with syringes, suction set, dressings, IV bags, etc - stuff to practice with and you will have to bring it for you rlab evaluations - they don;t have the stuff - you need to use your own. You will start clinicals in your first semester - but not right away - I thinkit was about a month or so before we started clinicals. Usually everyone is nervous about it - cause you don't know what to expect. But the clinical instructor will not leave you hanging - you will be guided. Basiclaly, you will get one patient, and you will do the basic care, and maybe give meds. Each clinical instructor is different - you may do meds each day - or may give meds every other day... it really depends. Clinicals for day program are twice a week, I am guessing it is the same for nights. The first semester you will have fundamentals, pharmacology and physical assessment. Even though all the prereqs are done it will take 2 years. The PDA comes in handy - but is not required at all. I think there are only 2 or 3 of us who have one. Cinqui I am already in the program - but just wanted to wish you luck. There are a couple people on all nurses waiting to hear from BCC, and a friend of mine (not on all nurses) is also waiting to hear. I believe you guys will hear this week. Good luck!

It is possible they meant you were not invited to test. The test has not been administered yet. Not all who apply get invited to test. Don't give up - if you can attend school in the daytime, then reapply for the day program in January.
