For those coming to the USA, what made you want to move?

I'm curious as to why those of you who are planning on moving or have moved over to the US have done so? What made you decide? The thrill of travel, new experiences, idealization of the US :uhoh3: , spouse relocation?? What IS is about the US that makes people want to (or have to) come over?

I'm planning on it, mostly because there's a job that's a good opportunity for me. I work in LVADs, and there is a small market here in Australia. I've worked as a VAD coordinator, in the CVICU and for a VAD manufacturer. We've done around 100 VADs in Australia.. ever. Most of the top VAD hospitals in the US have done around 250 each. So the experience is just more than I'll be able to get here. Plus, I worked there for a year and loved my coworkers, and enjoyed going to work every day.

I'll be taking a massive paycut, but the lifestyle issues and work opportunities make it worth it - at least for a while. I'm not planning on moving permanently though - I can't imagine a better place to live and raise a family than Australia!

I'm coming over to the US only because my husband is American. I will be taking a big pay cut and although I do love the US, I agree with you augigi, Australia is a great place to raise a family, having lived there and in France too. The UK comes a close second for me though :)

Coming from Glasgow, Scotland and moving to SoCal the weather was a big factor

i would like to be in usa since is a place of more comfort and is a very special place to be i just love this country and would be happy if someone invites me there

I want to be there because I have plenty of relatives in US and not even one here in England. I like the weather especially in CA & AZ. Also our school's language and English terminologies, where I grew up, is mainly amercanized and adapted from US. Lastly, I love to travel and work with different people, I used to work in Asia, Middle East, and currently here in Europe.

I'm plain pure & fed-up of the UK right now. The CCTV, the congestion Charge, the plans to put chips in our wheelie bins & fine us if our bins are too heavy, the extra pay by miles road tax proposed, the parking - or lack of it, the draconian parking measures where they're not needed, the political correctness gone mad, the rubbish pay, the crowded housing, the price of petrol etc etc etc.

I have a beautiful house in Florida & I want to go live in it! I'm aware that the grass isn't always greener but I'd far rather come home to my FL house after work than the one I'm in now, which, incidentaly, would sell for more than the FL house cost us to build!! So I'll have no mortgage, no school fees (kids in private school because of the dreadful ones near us here), mostly warm weather & plenty of green space.

Does that make sense??

My husband is American and whined like a spoilt child about cloudy days in the UK. So we moved to Colorado, and I can certainly say it's sunny.

I still expect to go back to the UK but I wonder how realistic I'm being about that. It will cost a fortune to move without any relocation package.

I am hoping to Emigrate over to the USA from the Uk too for alot of the reasons that RGN1 mentions - The whole CHAV culture over here is just pathetic the whole country I feel is just full of stupid politics - I know the problems over on America will be similar - But me and Hubby are just ready for a change and a fresh start on life - we have always holidayed over in the states and love the lifestyle and culture of the country - I will also be taking a severe pay cut and definate posistion drop too, but the cost of living in the states seems alot lower especially the housing prices in alot of areas, my 2 bed 1 bath tiny house is valued at around $250'000 we could get alot more in the US for that money.

On top of all that the nursing seems alot better - you have more autonmy and definately more staff which is a HUGE perk for us NHS workers :)

I'm getting virtually a 50% pay rise per hour in the USA to go with my no mortgage or school fees & lovely house! & that's agency wages too - should rise once I'm free of that contract!

For me it is a challenge to do something different and more money with hopefully a better house and definately better weather. I have no problems with Automony and responsibilty with any of my jobs expecially now working in a GP surgery
