Ok - who are you, what do you do, where abouts in Florida do you live (or if you are not in Floirda, what part of Florida do you want to move too), what is your clinical area, you status (CNA, LPN, RN, Student, Whatever) and anything else you might want to add.
Some of you already know me, I lived in Florida for a little over 20 years. An RN, I worked and lived in Sarasota. Went to nursing school at Manatee Community College and also University of South Florida at Sarasota. Great place .... love the beaches and the area is truly a wonderful place. I generally work surgical recovery and while in Florida, I worked in post open heart step down and also worked as a nurse manager.
I am a single dad raising three children (all are now teenagers - whew is this rough!). They are really great kids and I am a very luck father to have them.
Next ...... :chuckle
Hi There,I live in New York moved here from Ireland 22 years ago and went to Nursing school here.I have been in psych for the past 15 years and am ready for a change. My husband and I have visited Florida about every 6 months for the past 8 years. We just love it there. We would like to relocate to the Port Charlotte,Fort Myers area. How is the job situation there?I know the salaries are a lot less than NY but to get away from the cold winters would be worth the payoff.(I cant shovel any more snow)The winters are very long and depressing.I would probably stay in psych, would love maternity but it is impossible to get into.I did med/surg 15 years ago and lets just say it was not my cup of tea!!Does any body have any info for me,would greatly appreciate it.I have plenty of info on New York if needed.Thanks...Mel.
Hi, I just happen to read your post. I live in Port Charlotte. I worked for six months, in a hospital here and left, never to return. I was a Senior Case Manager for a private company, out of Ft. Myers, for ten years. All three hospitals suffered damage from Hurricane Charlie. The last voluntary hospital was sold this past spring to a for-profit outfit from Naples. I have been a patient in it numerous times and since the change, I was there for two and half weeks, the quality of care has suffered, as has the wait for a bed and the wait for ER care. Sorry but nothing has changed my mind about the hospitals in this area. Nurses are definitely second class citizens here in P.C.

Born and raised in St. Augustine. I'm an RN working in Home Health---I guess the name was a clue---I was a Dialysis nurse for 5 years and worked in Hospice for a while, but I am happiest and most satisfied in the position I'm in. I'm married, have an 18 y.o. daughter who starts Cosmetology school next week and a 5 y.o. Pug who is my 2nd child. I'm heading back to school in January. RN-MSN. I eventually want to teach in a Nursing program. I just like to study also. I know that makes me sound insane.
I will never leave my hometown. It's grown but still beautiful and ya' can't beat living 10 minutes from the beach!!
I thought I'd checked in here before but I don't see my post...
I am a BSN student living in the orange groves between Orlando and Lake Okeechobee... I commute to the coast for school. I hope to graduate next April.
I was raised in the Pensacola area and got my first degree (spanish education) at UWF there. I also skipped through GA, NC, and PA in between for a little while.
I like our small town pretty good... it's like Old Florida here... small, relatively uncrowded, orange groves & cattle. Our real estate finally decided to catch up in the last year or two though!! It used to be really cheap here but home values have doubled to tripled in just that time! We are such idiots for not investing.
Hi,
My wife & I are both nurses. I am currently working in a PACU in Melbourne. I grew up, worked & raised my kids in Lake Worth. My wife is currently in a nurse anesthesia school in MIami. She comes from Utah.
I have worked mostly in Fl, but went to school & worked in Rhode Island. Also we have worked in Utah & North Carolina.
The miracle is not that I finished, but that I had the courage to start

I'm looking to open an Adult Daycare on Merritt Island in Florida. These are the requirements to be an operator, which I will need and I'm wondering what kind of salary I might expect to pay. The operator shall have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a health or social services or related field with one year of supervisory experience in a social or health service setting or hold a registered nurse license with one year of supervisory experience or have 5 years of supervisory experience in a social or health service setting.

Hi! I moved down from CT to Pasco county almost 2 yrs. ago. I lived all my life in CT but had it with the snow! Too old for that anymore. I started as a volunteer at Hartford Hospital, was a CNA then an LPN in '70. I've worked 19 yrs. in hospital, 9 yrs. in LTC and 2 yrs as night supervisor in an ALF. When I came down here I worked briefly in an ALF but it's a whole different animal here than in CT. Now I'm very content doing hospice nursing and feel that this is where the Lord wants me to be at this time. I've got a 17 and 25 yr. old living at home...still. I've got 5 more courses left with Excelsior for RN, ASN. Need to get myself motivated to get started back up again. Maybe I should keep in mind that big pay difference from CT to FL! Ugh! But we are pretty content here. And I'm sooo glad I found this site yesterday. I've been enjoying all the posts. God bless!

Hi Pat and all!
I moved from NY almost five years ago, and have settled into Bradenton. I had also gone to MCC, however, I'll be doing my nursing at USF for the BSN upper division. I had applied for both, but when I was notified four full months earlier from USF, I decided that since I wanted to go further with a Master's, going directly for my BSN was the smarter choice. I can't wait to start in the fall.
There are a few different areas of interest for me, but the biggest is just getting through these next two years. I do want to teach, even if as just an adjunct at MCC which is a great community college.
Hope to hear and see more West Coast Floridians!
