Hi, I'm an LPN student graduating in Feb. I currently live in NW Ohio will be moving to Bradenton/Sarasota area in June. Husband is already there, I'm waiting to graduate and kids done with school. If anyone has info on the school systems and places for employment, I would be more than willing to listen. :)

Hi Marcee .... Florida is a beautiful State with lots to offer many different types of people. For nurses, there is plenty of different and unique opportunities for employment. Florida still offers LPN's many opportunities in the hospital environment, if that is what you are looking for. Wages are pretty low in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, but in time, your wages do improve.

I just moved from Sarasota after living there for better than 20 years. My kids were in the Sarasota County School District and for the most part, the schools were ok. For me, I felt the local residents, many of which are retired, did not support the school system very well. They felt as though they had raised their kids and they did not feel an large obligation to the local kids. Unfortunately, for them, these kids will grow up to be the doctors, bankers, lawyers, nurses, teachers, etc of the future. This was discouraging to me, but overall, the area is lovely and there are many nice things to do. If you like the beaches, there is really none better than Sarasota, except for perhaps the keys!

Good luck with school and with your move.

Thanks RNPATL for the information. Hopefully the schools work out for my children. Don't want to resort to home-schooling. But thanks again for giving me some insight to what I'll be moving to.

For many people, moving to Florida is a dream come true and certainly a nice change of pace. How did you weather the hurricane season this year? My family was a wreck! They all live in Sarasota and North Port with my Mother being about 15 miles from Punta Gorda. They are still cleaning up from the devastation.

Hey pensacola isnt so bad, just not real big and not a lot of money here. I just graduated from the lpn program. Busy mom w/ a teenager and a preteen. School was unbelievable and i thought i would never make it. Thanks to my husband, some great friends i met in class and a couple of awesome instructors, i kept going and survived (w/ a pretty awesome GPA even). I am scared to death of the real world of nursing, and not real sure which way to go. Really want to do L&D or peds, but not many lpns in the hospitals around here. Private practice would be great, but I hear that lpns get paid gravy in private practice. I cant seem to confirm that though. Any suggestions or words of wisdom????

Hi all.

I currently live in Philadelphia, but am relocating to tampa bay area in June right after graduation. I am going to Fl. in March to interview for jobs, in hopes of having something lined up in advance. I hope to work at TGH or St. Joes.

I grew up there, and am very very happy to be moving back home.

See you soon!

Let's see. I'm an LPN. I work in a home for the developmentally disabled and really do like it more than I thought I would. However, not enough "nursing stuff" going on, if you know what I mean. I am starting LPN-RN in August. I was also a CNA. I'm in Pensacola but hope to move to Bradenton after I finish school. I have already started checking into the U of SF in Sarasota for their RN-MSN degree program.

Love South Florida and can't wait to move there.

Someone was talking about small town feel? Move to the Panhandle. Bakoodles of little small towns this way. :)

Hi,

I'm new here. I'm a nursing student from Miami, but attend school in Broward county.

:balloons: Hi There RNPATL. I am originally from Miami and God knows how desperatly I wanna go back home. Perhaps a little further north this time Ft. Lauderdale seems nice. I have been gone for about 11 years now. I am currently living in Puerto Rico and I graduate in dec. of this year, if I get my internship @ Southnassu Hopital in Long Island if not I grad. in aug. I am studing @ UIPR RN ASN. Before I leave for Fl. I intend to take my n-clex what else do you think I'll need and what are the possibilities of getting into an L&D department? The Nursing programs here in PR are very different from what I have read in replys and in the forums on this site. I gotta tell ya, I'm scared. The real nursing world seems overwhelming but I really have worked very hard, studied hard and feel that i'll be a good nurse. My GPA is 3.85 do you think i'll be able to get in to a RN-BSN program? Anyway any 411 will be greatly appreciated. GOD BLESS. :uhoh21:
