Ok - who are you, what do you do, where abouts in Florida do you live (or if you are not in Floirda, what part of Florida do you want to move too), what is your clinical area, you status (CNA, LPN, RN, Student, Whatever) and anything else you might want to add.
Some of you already know me, I lived in Florida for a little over 20 years. An RN, I worked and lived in Sarasota. Went to nursing school at Manatee Community College and also University of South Florida at Sarasota. Great place .... love the beaches and the area is truly a wonderful place. I generally work surgical recovery and while in Florida, I worked in post open heart step down and also worked as a nurse manager.
I am a single dad raising three children (all are now teenagers - whew is this rough!). They are really great kids and I am a very luck father to have them.
Next ...... :chuckle
Hi!
I'm a new transplant to the tampa area, originally from Arkansas moved here by way of NY. I went the LPN to RN route and just passed my boards this June and got a NY license. I'm waiting on my Florida license as I type this. Any day now!! I have to find a job!
Darlene,
I'd like to pick your brain about Tampa General. I've had interviews at South Bay and Brandon, but my goal is an ER position at TGH. Any advice?
So far I love Florida, it's a whole lot like Arkansas but has sand. LOL. My husband, born and bread up state NYer absolutely loves it here and swears he'll never leave. I have a 10 year old stepdaughter and two wonderful pupperwuppers.
Hi,I currently reside in New Jersey and will be starting an accelerated BSN program here. Upon completion (14 months) my husband and I will be relocating to the house were building in St Augustine. Unlike a good number of you who have replied to this post, I am extremely tired of the cold and snow and look forward to a more moderate climate. Go figure, maybe in 10 years I'll miss it all and want to go back. I sure hope that I like nursing!
I have been sponsored by Baptist Medical in Jacksonville and will be working at one of their hospitals when I get there.
Hi Bogeydog et al, from another Jersey nurse moving to FL! I just interviewed with 2 hospices and am moving back down to Levy County in October. It's a very rural, beautiful area - near the Suwannee River and the gulf (Cedar Key). We have 10 acres and are starting to build a home. Can't wait - looking forward to NO SNOW and much milder winters. As for the hot summers, that's what AC and POOLS are for!

I have long admired your posts and have looked to you as a role model for me as I learned this board Tweety. It is a pleasure to moderate a forum that represents your home State. We have a lot in common, although it is reversed .... I went to school in Bradenton and moved to NC and you went to school in NC and moved to Florida. Interesting .... anyway, thanks for your post .... Good luck in school.
Thanks Patrick! Good luck to you in your new manager's job. :)

Tweety - are you going the traditional route for your BSN? Or are you going through an online program? I am finishing mine with University of Phoenix .... but have recently had a delay .... I only have 6 classes left .... wwooohoooo.

I'm doing RN to BSN through St. Petersburg College. You have the option of taking it online or going to class. Given my night owl life I'm probably going online but might decide to do it live classroom instead, that's a year or so down the road. But I'm definately taking the coreqs online starting this fall. I've four co-reqs to take, one semester at a time first. I decided to go local because it's so much cheaper and it's an excellent school. I've taken classes there before and am in their system, so it was easy to apply. We have tuition reimburment, but it's only $2000 a year and I'd used that up too fast at Phoenix or other online programs.
Some of the classes require some on campus work like assessment. You take the class online, but at the end you bring someone in and do a head-to-toe assessment on them live in front of the instructor.
Good luck in your education!

St. Petersburg College is a local former two year community college that has recently expanded into the realm of 4-year degrees. Their are NLN approved and being a state resident very cheap compared to other Florida Universities. I could go to University of South Florida as well, which is in Tampa, but that's more money for the same education.
Good luck!
Hi you are right where I want to be( right across the street from the beach). We plan to move to Florida when I am through with school. I start the ADN program August 18. Are you intrested in selling??? I love Ky. but I also love Florida.Good Luck CRB613

Hey,
So far, I really like it at Tampa General. Go to their web site http://www.tgh.org and you can apply on line. Marisol is the the HR person to contact, her # is 813-844-7331. Their benefits are very good too. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. Good luck.
Darlene :)

Former Floridian here--grew up and spent 20 years in Altamonte Springs (NE suburb of Orlando). I am very much looking forward to returning to FL. My husband and I are currently building a home in South Jacksonville area, in NW St. John's county. After living in the Chicago area now for 9 years, I have had all the cold I can possibly handle in this lifetime! I received my BSN in 1998 and have worked on post open-heart stepdown/tele, med-surg. and in an ambulatory care/physician practice setting. I have been working as a staff RN at a local community hospital in med-surg. setting for past couple years--Love the 7a-7p shift, working 3 days/week!
Great to see where everyone is coming from, both literally and professionally.
Looking forward to being back in the great state of FL--even if the pay does leave alot to be desired
