Florida Hospital Graduate Nurse Program July/August 2015

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am going to be graduating with my ADN in May and am planning to relocate back to Central Florida from Southeast Missouri (I moved here in 2007 with family and I'm very much looking forward to this move!). I applied for the July/August 2015 Graduate Nurse Program and selected my preferential locations as Orlando and Altamonte in PCU, Med/Surg Tele, and ED. I am hoping to move as soon as possible after graduation, dependent on getting a job. I am a single mother to a one year old and cannot go if we don't have a stable situation yet.

I guess what I'm wondering is:

What are my chances?

What advice do you have for me?

Did anyone have a similar situation and get hired on?

My application was submitted yesterday evening and this morning it said "Under Initial Review". I am 22 and have had 4+ years experience in Nursing as a CNA, the last year being spent with a Community Health Systems Hospital. I mentioned that I would immediately be pursuing my BSN this summer and also that my mom worked there as an RN before we moved and how she had many good things to say about FH.

Thanks in advance! I am banking on getting this opportunity and am not sure where I will go work wise if I don't get a position with FH. Haven't heard many good things with Orlando Health?

I got an Interview at celebration for their icu program.. and also pcu at two other location. when was your interview?

Specializes in ICU.

That's great! My interview was two weeks ago.

Everyone that has already interviewed, how did it go? what was the process? what kind of things did they ask you? I have an interview coming up in two weeks and I really want the job, and want to be as prepared as possible. Im interviewing with the ICU and PCU. I would love any advice anyone would have to give.

Specializes in ICU.

You'll interview with HR first and then the managers. Lots of behavioral questions like "name a time when..." It isn't bad though. You'll do well

Specializes in Float Pool.

I had a HR interview which was all behavioral questions...."tell about a time when..." , an interview with Neuro and the FH main campus in Orlando and and interview with the Cardiac ICU main campus last Wednesday. The questions caught me off guard. I had 4 different case scenarios that I had to tell what actions I would take, what meds i'd give and how i would administer, what diagnostic tests I would anticipate, what labs I'd draw and what teaching I would do. My scenarios were Heart attack, TIA, Heart transplant, and CHF. I got a call on Thursday and was offered a new grad position in Neurology. Make sure you are prepared and know meds that would relate to the unit your interviewing for. Also s/s of rejection lol. It was the most intense interviews ever but I'm glad I was offered a job. Good Luck Everyone!!!

Hey everyone!

This is my first post and I am hoping I can get a quick reply. I have an interview with PCU at Florida Hospital and I am most worried about the clinical case study and what kind of questions they ask. If anyone has interviewed with PCU would you be able to share what disease processes they asked about and maybe what kind of questions? Please HELP!

Does anyone who got accepted to the Orlando campus want a roommate? I just accepted today and would like to room with someone from the program!

Paintmegray: I got accepted into a PCU unit! Did you have your interview already?

I am a grad nurse from Michigan, and I have been offered a position at Florida hospital Tampa GN program. For the Tampa hospital, they rotate you through various departments and you choose where you want to end up.

I originally applied in Orlando and was offered a position for Nuero, and offered a position at Altamonte for med surg. These locations told me they do not offer relocation.

The interviews for these 2 floors were similar to what others described in this thread, except I did not get asked any clinical test type questions, which is strange.

About at week after applying to central florida locations, I applied to FHT.

Oddly enough, FHT offered 5k sign on bonus and higher base rate of pay (24 something) but less diff. It will be about 30 after diff. My interview was a skype style interview, and I was offered the job after about 10 minutes. There were no difficult behavioral questions at all, and I didn't have to interview with any HR or anything. Just straight to the nurse managers. Kind of strange.

I only have an ADN, am a male, and have no hospital experience. I have 7 years of experience passing meds at assisted living, and 4.0 d every nursing course in my program.

If anyone out of state is worried about getting licensure in time, there are companies that will basically do it for you, who have connections to the FL board. 120 bucks it cost me.

Sorry for the grammar, on a iPhone.

Hey. Yeah I got the job 2 weeks ago on PCU but I had to turn it down because I got better offers at different hospitals. As of now, the University of Iowa has the best offer, followed by Kansas City. I am still hoping I hear from university of Washington though.

I was was really excited about Florida but once they extended an offer they changed the wage they quoted me and offered no relocation assistance. Also that contract scared the crap out of me. The fact that they can fire you and you still owe them money...ouch!!!. But the management on PCU was very friendly. I'm sure you will love it there

Hey, hopefully your other submissions/interviews went well. If you're interested in some other residency programs, you can check on onestopnursing Nurse Residency | ONESTOPNURSING to see if there any ones you haven't already applied to or is close by. Good luck.

Hi! I have a quick question. I grew up in Lake County and have offically survived my 1st year in nursing school (yay!) anyway, I am doing my BSN in the US Virgin Islands but I am looking to move home after I finish, so I can be near my grandmother. Does anyone know anything about how Waterman Hospital operates its New Grad program, is it identical to the rest of the FH campuses? I've heard that I should aim for LRMC instead of Watermen. Also what are my chances as a 30 y/o new grad with no medical background, 3.2 GPA and a BSN?
