  1. Being a male nurse will help more than hurt. I'm a guy and the nurses here seem to appreciate that due to lifting, violent people ect. im in my 3rd week of the residency and I enjoy it. I am able to rotate through 6 different floors and I get matched after week 5. There are many new nurses in this program that have no background in healthcare besides clinical. As for GPA, I am unsure how much that is looked at. I can tell you that specialty areas such as ER and ICU do look at my GPA when i give them my resume during my rotations. I got all 4.0s in nursing school. I only have an ADN but have been passing medications for 7 years in LTC facilities. This hospital was actually ranked very poorly nationally in several categories just last year, but it is improving ALOT. Like bottom 10th percentile to 75th percentile. The culture is changing. If you are from out of state, like me, I would apply to other hospital systems as well. Tampa General and the baycare network are nice hospitals I wish I would have applied to. But I am happy here as I will be able to work on speciality floors as a new nurse, which probably isn't an option at other facilities.
  2. I have an ADN with 7 years of med passing experience at nursing homes/assisted livings. Ive heard BSN get about 50 cents more per hour but I don't know for sure
  3. Idk I think just my experience and grades in school. Also I am a male, maybe that helps.
  4. Thanks. I have 2 classmates who took it last week on Wednesday and had licenses within 2 days. I took it Tuesday the 9th and still waiting. Makes me feel like they lost my file or something.
  5. I passed the NCLEX RN on 6/9, still dont have a license posted online. Can anyone from MI shed some light on when they received their license after passing? i called the board who said they haven't received my results from PV. I call PV and they say they sent them on the 11th. Pretty frustrating since I am on a timeframe here as I have a job starting soon
  6. I'm anticipating that. I hope the no state income tax helps a bit.
  7. Get a studio apt. I have a gf but if I wad going alone I would do that for sure.
  8. I am from Lansing Mi, just graduated with an ADN. i accepted a position at Florida Hospital Tampa, pay is 24.78, 4.50 for nights, 1.50 weekend, not sure about speciality diff. I hsve no hospital exp, but 8 yr med passing experience in assisted livings in MI. 4.0 on all nursing courses. I'm 24, ADN. Also got 5k relocatoon. hope that helps OP
  9. Gonna be a beautiful first check
  10. 5 grand added to first check
  11. For FHT, it's 2 yrs if you accept the bonus. On the offer letter they call it relocation bonus. But it's the same thing. if you leave after 1 yr, you pay back 2500, and so on. So you don't really lock yourself in by taking it. As for the person who has never heard of sign on/relocation, it is very common. I'm fortunate enough to not be tied down to MI so I have been applying all over the country. You should see Arizona. Get a little experience under your belt some of those places will throw 20000 at you. Hospitals NEED nurses more than anyone. Don't sell yourself short.
  12. I'm from Michigan and they also gave me 5 grand for relocation
  13. Idk it seems like it is a set rate for all new grads. That's just the feeling I got thru the whole process. I did have all 4.0 is nursing schoola nd have been passing meds in nursing homes/assisted livings since I was 18 ( so 8 yrs now), so maybe your right.
  14. Once I have my Michigan licensure , they promise to transfer it to FL licensure in 2 to 3 wk
