Hello Everyone!
I am going to be graduating with my ADN in May and am planning to relocate back to Central Florida from Southeast Missouri (I moved here in 2007 with family and I'm very much looking forward to this move!). I applied for the July/August 2015 Graduate Nurse Program and selected my preferential locations as Orlando and Altamonte in PCU, Med/Surg Tele, and ED. I am hoping to move as soon as possible after graduation, dependent on getting a job. I am a single mother to a one year old and cannot go if we don't have a stable situation yet.
I guess what I'm wondering is:
What are my chances?
What advice do you have for me?
Did anyone have a similar situation and get hired on?
My application was submitted yesterday evening and this morning it said "Under Initial Review". I am 22 and have had 4+ years experience in Nursing as a CNA, the last year being spent with a Community Health Systems Hospital. I mentioned that I would immediately be pursuing my BSN this summer and also that my mom worked there as an RN before we moved and how she had many good things to say about FH.
Thanks in advance! I am banking on getting this opportunity and am not sure where I will go work wise if I don't get a position with FH. Haven't heard many good things with Orlando Health?
I live out of state. Is calling HR the best thing for me to do? Not sure if it would help or not but I applied to a ton of other RN jobs in the Orlando, Altamonte, Kissimmee, Celebration, and East Orlando facilities. I was hoping to stay closer to Orlando/Maitland/Altamonte /Lake Mary areas to live but I will take what I can get. Wasn't sure if new grads could only be hired through the GN program or not.
If you look through the FH website you can find individual numbers for each hospitals HR. I think new grads only get hired through the GN program but I could be wrong.
I have an phone interview next week for an ED position at altamonte springs. I was really hoping for an ICU interview but I'll take whatever I can get for now. Does anyone have any tips for their phone interviews? I really have no clue what to expect. Thanks!
How long ago did you apply and when did you first hear from them?

Thank you! It has only been 6 days since I applied haha so I am remaining hopeful I will hear something. My status still says "Under Initial Review". Thanks for all the help!
Thanks and I applied about 2 weeks ago then HR contacted me about a week ago and put me in for 2 ICU positions and 1 ED position. I was just called on friday for a phone interview about the ED position. On the website the ED position status says completed while the 2 ICU positions say under initial review. From what Ive heard as long as it says under initial review you are still in the game. And again any tips from someone who possibly had a phone interview with FH would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
They hire new grads about 2-3 times a year... And it's only under the GN program. Not sure how the phone interview process work. I went to there hiring event, and got hired on the spot and have move on since. Do your general research on Florida hospital... So if they ask you know. Flood them with questions and leave little room for them to question you. Always stay optimistic and never give them a negative answer.... What they expect is a positive... There is always questions on tell me about a time you had a conflict and so on....your answers to personality questions should be your a great team player always willing to help others and so.
Team work, Work ethics, personality
And how well you fit in.... Is there focus.
They are always having hiring events
If you can take a trip down... Beef up your resume.., have multiple copies and your portfolio in your hand.
If you don't have ACL"s and PAL's it's a good idea to get it... Even if you don't need it. It looks good😀
They will also test on the spot... So know your strips especially critical care nurse ie ICU ER
Have you applied for your FL license yet... It's good to have it on your application. FL hospital will not pay for moving. Have a main HR contact and yes calling from out of state is good. If you really want to be at FL hospital let them know your willing to do what it takes if they hire you.
