Florida Hospital College RN-to-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

I'm looking into this totally on-line program. The price is right and it is a 'real' college in Florida. Anyone attend this school or have reliable information?

Thanks.

Hi Mona b and all, Yes, there is a statistics requirement "Applied Statistics". After they reviewed my official transcripts I received a calendar with the courses and projected timeframe (semester) I will be taking them. Next semester I will have Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Leadership and Management in Nursing. I will have Statistics next summer. Are you familiar with WebCT? FHCHS uses WebCT to deliver the classes. I log in whenever I want. Have you completed an English 102 course or Chemistry? They are prereq's for patho and so forth. The calendar indicates the length of the course (5 weeks, 7.5 wks, and 10 wks). So even though the courses are in the same semester, they may not be totally concurrent. My chemistry course starts Mon 10/4 through 12/12, and my World religion course starts 11/7 through 12/12. Actually, when I was first talking to my advisor, I sent in my unofficial transcripts and was able to get some questions answered while they waited on offical transcripts to arrive. If you are interested in ANY program, please remember some schools require $$ before they will send an official transcript so start early in preparing your information. :p :p

Are you taking chem through FHCHS?

Yep, I have my book right here...Officially starts Monday. I have an orientation chat tomorrow afternoon. We are using what I found to be a pretty popular text: Chemistry An Introduction to General, Organic, & Biological Chemistry by Karen C. TImberlake. (8th ed). I just finished downloading the course manual and schedule into my pda.

I am having a hard time with the website. I cannot find information on any of the courses. Do you have a link for course information?

Thanks and good luck with the chem class

http://www.fhchs.edu. Sorry I do not have a direct link. When I requested info, I was sent a complete listing. You can even request info through http://www.allnursingschools.com/r/?schoolID=198. Thank you for the good wishes!

Good luck Tweety :specs:

BTW, I noticed that they accept a 3 credit chem and I also noticed that microbiology is not mentioned. I wonder if statistics is a requirement. Anyone know?

mona

Mona, they accept your ADN Degree and then require some additional courses. If Micro wasn't part of your ADN program, then they aren't asking for it. However, I've never heard of an accredited school not requiring Micro.

I was pleased they only require the online version of Chemistry and not chemistry lab. That was on thing I looked for when selecting a program. (The program I'm leaving didn't require college chemistry at all).

Here's a list of the coreqs and the course, but there are no descriptions that I've found yet. I imagine when enrolled you'll have access to the catalog. My understanding is you can take all those courses online through their program, or of course you can transfer any credits you already have taken elsewhere.

It's very slow loading this morning for some reason.

Thanks Tweety. I think your right that they do not give access to actual course information until you are enrolled. I was just curious about the curriculum and wanted to check out the online chem class they have. I think I could handle the chem, it's the statistics that scares the crap out of me. I found one BSN program that does not require statistics and that is through Thomas Edison State College.

Thanks

For anyone who may be interested, here is a link to another online RN to BSN. The nursing program can be done in 3 semesters. Tuition was about 560 for a 3 credit hour class.

Anyway, I have completed a few classes and am taking Chemistry and world religions this fall.

I'm curious. May I ask why you are taking Chemistry at this level, I mean isn't this an RN to BSN program?

Just curious

Opal

I am taking Chemistry at the college level for the first time. I am an LPN (1988) turned RN (Regents College, 2000). I thought getting my Associate Degree would be the end of my goals, but I now have my sight set on an MSN. I already have a great job, but I do love learning and know that our profession is ripe with opportunities!

Many ADN programs don't require college level chemisty. High school chemistry is fine. Mine didn't either so now that I want a BSN I'll have to take chemistry for the first time since high school, and we won't talk about how long that was ago :). Interestingly St. Petersburg College RN to BSN didn't require chemistry at all.

I see. I definitely won't take Chemistry for it's been waaaaay too long since HS for me as well.

I have just recently applied to FHCHS .... awaiting for the remainder of my transcripts to get there before I have an official review and know what courses I need. I have taken several courses through UoP and hope that they transfer. It would be terrible to think that I paid all that money at UoP, only to have my credits not transfer. Anyway - I am hoping to start in the Spring Semester ....

I know that FHCHS is a member of the Adventist Health System .... this is the system I work for and it is a wonderful company! Anyone have any additional feedback on the program?
