Florida Hospital College RN-to-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I'm looking into this totally on-line program. The price is right and it is a 'real' college in Florida. Anyone attend this school or have reliable information?

Thanks.

Regarding online classes not being easier...you are right on Patrick, they are not. Do any of you know a really good computer program for writing APA style papers? YES, I have the darned book, but I was hoping to find another(less complex) resource. My next course is Nursing Research and I am none too thrilled about the thought of writing those APA papers again!

Thanks and good luck to all of us.

Spouse says this is the program he used.

He downloaded it online to his laptop. I'll be using it too. He swears it's worth every single penny, it is so convenient. Just plug in the information and it formats it for you.

Good luck.

Hi Tweety .... sorry for the delayed response, I have been moving since Friday! I actually received an email from Terry on Thursday that I was accepted into the program. Thankfully I do not have to take Chemistry ... woohooo .... but you and I will be in Concepts of Professional Nursing class together. Then I take Leadership & Management. I am still waiting for my transcript review as I really DO NOT want to repeat any of the BSN courses I have taken with UoP .... the cost is very reasonable .... certainly better than UoP ..... but I am excited .... just waiting on the transcript review.

Congratulations on your acceptance ... I bet you are excited! I love online learning ... it is not easier, just way more convenient. Anyway ... I am getting settled into my new home and this is actually the first moment I have been online since Friday. Tweety .... keep in touch so I know when you are registering ..... I guess we have to register before December 13th.

Patrick, I hope you don't have to repeat any courses either. I'll let you guess who I am since I won't be using the name "Tweety". hehehehe

Thanks Tweety for the APA reference!!!!

Thanks Tweety for the APA reference!!!!

You're welcome! I've taken a lot of college courses, but it's been a long long time since I've had to write any papers. I've never used APA format. I understand that I'll be writing a lot of paper from now on, a lot. I'm very nervous about that.

Plus the last papers I wrote were the old fasioned way, by using real books in a real library, and a typewriter (no kidding). How primitive. :rotfl:

Please be careful using APA software, according to teachers and past resources I have used. While I personally never used the software, it was not recommended. Some of the best tools I have are a combination of printed materials from UoP and FHCHS. I have the papers printed out in a folder I keep under my desk, as well as some hard copies of my own graded papers. And I learned to go ahead and save my papers on the computer and could just use the same format over and over again, just creating newer versions. I think I read reviews of the software from people who used it either on download.com or Amazon. Buyers beware! Unsolicited input, but just check before you buy the program. :o

Thanks Cindy. Buyers beware indeed. I'd never heard of APA format until spouse started grad school a couple of years ago. I envision myself wasting hours and hours writing papers that should take less time. Ugh....

I agree Cindy, I have the "Little Brown Book" from UOP. I used that exclusively and I have always done well on my papers.

The APA style is not difficult only a few specifics apply to most papers. The difference is when I used an unusual source then I needed guidance to the procedure in the body as well as in the reference page. There are online APA helps which are free. I will try to find them in my papers and post the weblink here.

hey you guys that are in the program--

are they pretty flexible with what they transfer?

i had a 3 credit college chemistry class, no lab.

what about pathophysiology, had 4 credits of that.

had 3 semesters of pharmacology in nursing school.

had health assessment and promotion in nursing school.

got my ADN at a community college here in arizona.

anyone get out of those? also, world religions, statistics? if you take at local community college do they transfer?

thanks!!! :)

I just applied to FHCHS for their AS program. I already have two AA degrees and a ton of transfer credits from Wright State in Ohio, but they don't offer a straight BSN there. I am actually moving to Tampa not Orlando but I thought the drive wouldn't be bad for just a year. I have everything done but the nursing classes and then I can finish online. I am applying for Jan 08 there. Anyone have any thought or advice for me? Landis

Wow Tampa to Orlando for a year! You may want to do a test trip or two. Traffic in Orlando can be horrendous.:uhoh3: It's easily an hour and half drive each way and you've got to remember that sometimes clinicals start at 0630. FHCHS is a great school, especially because they're part of the Florida Hospital system and are well integrated with them but only there BSN program is online so you're going to be putting quite a bit of campus time in. Make sure that your commute is doable before starting in. If you do go for it though, I wish you the best of luck and endurance.

I have so many tranfer credits it will only take me a year to complete the program. Only nursing classes to take. I appriciate the advice though. Is that where you went? When do they put up a schedule of classes? I would like to see what is offered when so I can find a babysitter. Argghhh. Thanks so much. Landis

Has anyone heard anything about this BSN tuition being waived for FH nurses? I heard a rumor it was free if you agree to work at the hospital 2 years after you graduate.

Also- I found this video up on their site of the Pinning from this past Christmas, it was so nice I wanted to share with you guys:
