I'm pretty sure this topic has been brought up before, but why does it seem like so many first time posters get nasty when they don't hear what they want?
If they don't hear what they want they start calling you names and saying you are being mean.
If you point out they are violating TOS by having "nurse" in their username (and they are not a nurse) they get defensive and make it seem like we are being unreasonable.
Is the solution to just not respond to first time posters who obviously have no idea what nursing actually entails? The posters that seem to want the stars AND the moon... but if we did that then we'd probably get lashback for not responding. Are we just darned if we do and darned if we don't?
I always try to respond to posters and help them as best I can. This site helped me many times when I was going through nursing school, so I try to give back!! I had a poster who was really rude to me and I kept trying to take it down and even apologized for if I came off wrong - of course the OP never apologized!
I agree with Davey Do
The method and the tone in which an enquiry is answered is also congruent to the reaction. Many replies to questions are curt and demeaning, so a defensive reaction is easily understood.Giving advice is a two-edged sword: If the advice pans out, everybody is happy. However, if the advice ends in failure, there's alway someone to blame.
Many times, many many times, the one posing the question has the answer within their post. These individuals require only guidance to see that they have the answer within their own hands. Those who question usually know the answer, they merely require guidance.
Guiding an individual to their own answer is a technique of therapy and benefits all parties involved. The one who questions feels good about finding the answer on their own, doing the footwork so to speak. The guide can feel good about helping the individual and also reaps the benefit of not having to take responsibility for the answer.
I also agree with the other posters who stated we should lurk a little when we first come. That's what I did. I realized the best was to post your question was with as much information as possible and your thought process and what you think the answer is...then they can tell you if you're correct, on the right path but not quite there yet, or totally off in your answer but have something right in your thinking. Nobody wants to do other people's homework. It is of no benefit to someone for someone else to do their work for them!!
I do believe that online, unfortunately, things can be taken the wrong way. What you say and mean to come off in a nice, joking way, may come off like a smart a**. The post I was referring to that I replied to, I told the OP that maybe if he/she included the thought process and ideas on possible diagnoses the good people at AN could help. I jokingly stated we don't like to do people's homework. The OP took that the wrong way, which I immediately apologized for and stated I didn't mean it like that, just that unfortunately sometimes it happens on here. I just felt if he/she provided more info he/she could receive more help. But it just went wrong from the start!! Anyways...my point is that unfortunately, things can easily get taken the wrong way. What one might think is innocent, a joke, etc. another might read as being rude, snide, etc. So, I always try to think about that before reacting when someone is being rude. Of course, there are times when there is no mistaking it and the person is just flat out rude and mad that he/she is not getting the answer he/she believes it is or wants to hear!
Lol this forum has got nothing on other forums I've been a part of where getting flamed was a typical daily experience. I recall one where hysterical accusations of online bullying, harassment, and so forth got so bad the forum was literally in flames for MONTHS and no one talked about what we were all there to talk about for a very long time. The entire moderating team was involved in the drama as well, suspending and banning users they didn't like, unsuspending equally offensive users that they did, etc. It reached a point where it became acceptable for angry users to venture out and find the social media accounts of users they were feuding with, trawl through for embarrassing photos, and meme the hell out of them all over the forum
At least on here the moderating team is very low-key and just gets in, enforces the rules, and gets out without getting dragged into personal insults, doxxing, etc. The trolling on here is extremely mild, to say the least.
How does everyone feel about the technology related to nursing? I feel in nursing school I was not prepares for the amount of technology involved and all the trouble shooting required for the job. I know this is on the job training but wow do we as nurses need to know much more than just caring for patients.
Apparently so. Because she knows so much from running the prison medical ward, and that's much more valuable knowledge than sitting in a classroom somewhere.https://allnurses.com/nursing-licensure-criminal/dose-bon-check-1146011.html
ETA: Darn! It's already been closed. But still worth reading.
Surely she was trolling. She has been in prison for years and really believes the BON won't do a background check?

Must I be the one to nominate that ole Bachelorette in Nursing thread?
It was/is my favorite rant and roll.

A young wide-eyed hopeful destined for greatness unappreciated by tyrannical old bats posing as instructors fights back and regains her rightful place continuing in Florence Nightingale's inexcusable footsteps.
That's about it.
Any similarities real or imagined are not the intent of this writer.

I got a whole attitude reading that thread cause she seemed to know the answer to everything despite being told she was wrong on almost every post. I answered the best I could without being super rude but it was sooooooo hard not to be a complete jerk LOL
