First day in school for LPN....

Published

and already I have had someone question why I would bother since "the pay sucks and no one will hire LPN's" This was coming from a nurse friend I know online who also lives in Ontario.

I can't handle 4 years now.. I have an almost three year old, no money, I am getting married next august. Not to mention, my math grade was too low for me to get into RN now, so I would have had to take that over and THEN apply- not even knowing if I'd be in then.

I may go for RN eventually, but my plan was to do this first, then work for a bit and then do the rest part time to get my RN- thought I am hoping they will have some kind of bridge in place by then...

I wish people wouldn't make me feel so discouraged. Why do RN's have to sit there putting me down over this?? It's just so mean.

:nono:Dont let other peoples comments influence your decisions about your life and career. Stay in the LPN program and once you graduate & get your experience then you can bridge over to RN. I have learned so much just by doing the LVN program 1st and the pay is not bad either~ ;)Just try to stay positive and dont pay attention to the negativity around you. Best of luck!

i was a LPN for 21 years and now i am a RN . i loved being a LPN and i really feel it is a good stepping stone to becoming a RN . don't let people get you down, being a LPN is a good job and honorable. congrats on getting into school , and be proud.

GLAD2BANURSE couldn't have said it better. Stay positive and don't let anyone steer you away from what it is you truly want to do in life. And don't be fooled by the salary LPNs make, it really isn't bad considering I know people whom have made $800 in two days as a new LPN Grad.

I had been an Executive Assistant for over 10 years when I decided I wanted to go into the Healthcare field. Ultimately I want to be a CRNA, but I'm starting out with the option GOD set out for me and that is the LPN program and I'll step up the ladder from there! Good LUCK!

Don't listen to that bull! The pay is decent as an LPN and you WILL get a job, may not be in a hospital, but you will have one. :D

I have the same comments made towards me sometimes but I have come to a point where I don't give a You Know What!!! Surround yourself with supportive people. I have RN's that are very encouraging over my decision. It has always been my desire to get my RN but the school systems in my area make it down right impossible to get into a program. I got turned down last year so instead of sitting around a whole year, a friend told me about a LPN program she went through. It was the best thing I ever did in my life. I have learned so many skilled and can assess patients with ease. Don't let it get you down. Oh and by the way, my first job offer was 41,000 a year. Thats the most money I have ever made. Good luck in your program.

I am a LPN, yes I tried to get into RN school but instead I got my LPN. I am still a nurse either way. I love my job. Who care what they think.;)

I too have been told not to go that route, the LPN first, then the RN. I'm 43 years old and have tried nursing school twice before, not getting past my prereqs. I have a special needs child, so everything was put on hold for a while. I am so looking forward to starting my LPN training very soon and if I never get beyond that then so be it. I'll still be helping people and that is the important thing. Don't listen to others - I wish I hadn't listened for so long and just plowed ahead. Good luck!

I don't think the pay is bad at all. I live in a small WV town with nothing but a Walmart and a Wood Factory and convienant stores..all paying minimum wage. I'm a new grad and this is my first job, but I am one of the highest paid ppl in town at 13/h and that's just base pay for a new grad. I'm lovin it.

Well, they sure hire LPN's in BC!!! LTC, hospitals, community care ect. I just started this week and will finish next August. I can guarantee I will be working as an LPN by mid September. I'm excited!! Base pay for an LPN here is about $2.150/hour and even higher at some private nursing homes.

Stick with the program and good luck!

"People" told me that I doing the LPN was a waste of time because LPN's are being phased out. Well, I get calls and job applications sent to me all the time without even applying for jobs. All my old resumes that I handed out back when I graduated are obvously being retained by facilities.

The money in nursing homes, asst living, etc. is good. I work in a hospital, where the money is less but the experience is more. Also, if you do decide to go on, the RN program will be much easier for you.

I started RN school today, a one-day-a-week program. I am SO glad that I'm an LPN, because I feel so much more confident. I am a nurse. Not a pretend nurse. A NURSE.

"People" talk out their you know what. Go for your LPN. You won't regret it. I haven't for one second of one day.

I heard that all through LVN school, even from our instructors. And guess what? Before I even applied for jobs or took the boards I was getting calls from places that I did my clinicals. I got to CHOOSE where I wanted to work and accepted a position before I even knew if I passed the boards.

So YES, there are LVN/LPN jobs out there if make a good name for yourself in school.

I hate to sound like a broken records, but treat your clinicals as job interviews!!!
