I thought this was an interesting discussion that happened to pop-up on a certain social media site. How many of you conceal carry? And what do you think about prohibiting firearms on hospital property?

I think with the increasing violence these days, safety is a major concern for everyone. How do you protect yourself and still abide by the rules set by your facility?

I'm surprised that you were allowed to buy a gun without a license

I bought 2 guns and I do have a license. Getting the license wasn't very hard, made much easier since the police didn't have to come and inspect my storage facilities since I store my firearms in New Zealand with a relitive who is also licensed and has approved storage. I would say it was about as difficult as getting a passort in the USA is.

Thankfully, Texas passed a law that allows an employee to keep a gun in their vehicle at work. Businesses are not allowed to prohibit it.

You don't have to steal a car to obtain a firearm.

Its not like they are that uncommon or difficult to obtain. Likely the punk who jacks your car has a better collection of firearms than you lol.

I guess unless you are under the impression that felons, since they are prohibited from purchasing firearms, are unable to obtain firearms by other far easier means.

Having made an equally conscious decision to go unarmed, I mostly worry about being caught in the crossfire. I'm 65 years old and not particularly spry. Duck and cover is likely to break bones and I can't afford to lose that much work.

I'm a skeptical soul and have my doubts that a concealed carry permit means much by way of actual skill. Kinda like passing the NCLEX.

So, I disagree with concealed carry in my workplace. Too many cowboys in Albuquerque.

I have worked with people that were uncomfortable with working with openly gay or transsexual nurses and nurses who were uncomfortable with working with HIV+ nurses and patients.

I cannot see why something that someone else is, or does, that does not directly affect you shou infringe upon their right to do it.

If you only knew how little firearm training police officers received then you would not feel comfortable with then carrying either, lol.

This officer's magazine is backwards in her rifle, for those with a minimum of firearm training that is the nursing equivalent of putting the bell of the stethoscope to your ears instead of the ear pieces and wondering why you can't hear breath sounds!

I just think that there exists a compulsion to force other people to be or act in a way that is comfortable to yourself. I try to be as open minded and accepting as possible.

I am as well, just pointing out that gay people are just kinda "being" where bringing a gun to the workplace is a deliberate action.

I can see your point.

Many, unfortunately far too many, believe that being gay or more specifically openly gay is a deliberate action also. Especially being openly transsexual.

Yay, so the 100000 times I get into my car that wasn't stolen, I have my firearm there for my protection.

I'm a former law enforcement officer and corrections supervisor/gang investigator who arrested or incarcerated many dangerous felons and gang members over 25 years. I live 6 miles from Reynosa, Mexico on the Texas border. We have cartel and gang activity running rampant down here. I'll go ahead and carry my gun, and let YOU worry about mitigating how uncomfortable YOU are with it.

I strongly support your right to do or not to do what you believe in but wanting to force others to comply with what makes you feel comfortable is disappointing.

Hopefully one day more will realize that the less we regulate what others do or believe in the better off everyone will be.

Fortunately with gay marriage, the legalization of marijuana use, and constitutional carry like in Arizona we are slowly heading to a more open and tolerant society but we have a long ways to go.

For many of us, it's less about staying "comfortable" as you so dismissively put it, as it is about the very rational doubt that a given shooter can hit the broad side of a barn away from the calm, highly controlled setting of a shooting range.
