Finally passed 3rd attempt, after 8 years

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi Everyone,

I graduated from my nursing program 8 years ago. I took time off to have kids and help my husband set up his business. I started to study for NCLEX back in Jan. 2014 my first attempt I failed in June with 75q my second attempt i did horse repeatedly and also kaplan i failed in October with 265q. For my third attempt i did kaplan content review, davis book, lippicott sata book and i passed with 223q.

It has not been easy so many times I wanted to give up and do something else with my life but I kept on and today is one of the happiest days of my life I saw my name and license number on the state board of nurses. I am over the moon and have already submitted two applications to start my masters program ASAP.

If you are reading my story don't give up please you can do it even if you have two young children like myself consistently disturbing you while your trying to study, you can still do it. Keep going and you will eventually make it.Take Care and all the best.

Hopefullapass, BScN, RN

Congratulations!!

Congrats! I wish you success!

That said, I'm curious to know what clinical experience you had, if any, during the 8 years you waited to write the NCLEX. And while I admire your drive to immediately obtain a masters degree, I'm wondering if you've given any thought to actually working as an RN first?

When helping my husband in his home country I did run a diagnostic clinic so i did have minimal nursing experience over the years. I really don't want to wait any further to progress in my career I feel like I have neglected nursing for way to long. I am excited about starting new and to be honest after studying sometimes 12 hours a day to pass nclex i have adapted a strong study habit and I want to keep it up.

Congrats. I am truely inspired by you. What did you change the 3 time around. I am in the same boat. It has been years for me as well.

Specializes in PCCU, tele, Med/Surg, ED, Psych.

Congratulations!! I teach nursing school and even though students attend paid reviews, I still offer them reviews and tutoring until tey pass. It took one student 4 attempts, but she finally passed. As long as they don't give up on themselves, I won't give up on them. I always recommend that my students download NCLEX apps with practice questions so they can work on NCLEX anytime, anywhere. Congratulations again! Beck

Congrats Nurse!

Thank you all.@ksauders i didn't really do anything new except began to look at the NCSBN testing strategies and what they where looking for in each question. I looked at the competencies and its relation to the questions. I began to think critically and also Read and RE-Read the questions at least 3X on nclex* before I answered. I also had more confidence I knew I was going to pass and tried to keep calm during the exam. Anytime i felt frustrated I took a short bathroom break and also drank some water to keep hydrated. As much as NCLEX is the application of nursing knowledge you also have to believe in yourself that you can do it. You will pass NCLEX. Take good care.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! Gotta ask ya.. What State did you take nclex for? I am CDN and going for nclex in few months. @ present, I am on provisional license and working on medical unit.

Congratulations! Did you do the whole Kaplan course or just the content book?
