hello... i am a Filipino nurse, i got my license here in Phils. last december 2004. Then, i took the CGFNS last july '05, i passed (thanks GOD!). Now, i'm planning to take the IELTS exam this october for me to have a lifetime certificate of my CGFNS and for my visascreen....after which, i'm planning to take the NCLEX exam early next year..
I would like to ask if what Board of nursing in USA that has the fastest processing, because as what i have heard from my friends, BON of California took at least 6 months to release the eligibility. so, i guess it's too long for me to wait, can anyone help me what state has the fastest processing that will take only 2 months to release my eligibility?thank you...

Hi Nurseako... :)
i suggest you go to the International Nursing forum. There are a lot of threads there where you can find the answer to your query.
Best of luck.

Right now I would focus more on finding an employer as soon as possible as a delay may be in wait again for you. It doesn't matter where you go for initial licensure as far as time that way, but you are still going to have deal with the Visa Screen, etc. This can be done now, at least the application, then you will be set for immigration. Green card only requires the Visa Screen Certificate and you meet the requirements with the CGFNS exam and the IELTS.
Your biggest problem is going to be with the visa, a delay in processing is close on the horizon for nurses from several different countires including the Philippines............a few years or so.......
On average most states are going to be in the four month range for approval to be able to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. Nothing happens over night. It will also depend on how quickly that your school submits transcripts, etc.
Hope that this helps.

HI!!!!!!!!! I am also like you wondering which step to take first due to lots of priorities... I cannot give you advise yet but since you already have taken some of the rquired exams can I just get your advise regarding my situation. I took my NLe this year and passed it on June 2005. Right now, Iam not conected with any hospital. My school already sent the requirements for cg but what will I accomplish here to be able to grant an exam date next year. What will I take first? I am considering to take my IELTS but I also heared that I can overake cg and instead take my NCLEX. Since you already gone through most of it, can you please give me suggestion.. I hope I did not add to your confusion. Tnx!!!!!!!

The good thing is you passed the CGFNS. Take and pass the IELTS so that they can issue the CGFNS certificate. Then look for an employer to petition you asap. Once they started the petition process, you can start working on your NCLEX.
For the meantime, concentrate on getting your CGFNS certificate, the NCLEX can wait. Do not rush because it will bring more troubles later.
If in in a year time, you have a petition approved. I doubt you will be afected by the retrogression again. Remember 50K is a lot of visas and the only one competing for it are Filipino nurses followed by India and then China. This is my opinion.

Tnx for the post! but I think you misinterpreted what I had mentioned a while ago. I have not taken my cg yet but I am making ways to get it by march of next year which is the next exam date. However, I am making troubles which documents to pass . The school sent a separate documents and my friends are telling me things differently regarding which docs should I send to cg main office. I am also looking for review centers for ielts, although i am a second courser (AB Communication Arts) I am kinda anxious on what to expect pa kasi. Is it alright to spend my days working as a teacher while awaiting for my exams? or should I give in being a clinician? Are there employers who can sponsor nurses who were not able to practice their profession? have you taken your ielts? :)
My post above was intended for Nurseako.
Anyway, regarding your situation. You can keep on with your present job and find work as a nurse in the US.
If you are going to take the CGFNS, I think you are going to send all the TOR from yoyr school/s. I myself have took BSBIology for a year when I shift to nursing. So when I applied for the CGFNS, I have to submit both TOR and I have not encountered problems with that.
To be safe, just submit the two also. But if your first course was Nursing, then I think you have to submit only the Nursing TOR unless it is a second course then I think you have to submit both.
Anyway, the best thing to do is to call CGFNS and inquire.
I think you can foind employers who are willing to sponsor you even if you don't have any clinical experience. I took the TSE.
I think there are many in this BB who are not working as nurses but have pending visa applications. You can research the internet for employers in the US or you can check the local dailies like Manila Bulletin.

hi!.. that's what i was planning before when i just got my local license here in Phils, to take the NCLEX ryt awa... but, ma'am based on the suggestions of my frends, it would be wiser to take the CGFNS frst rather than taking the NCLEX. firstly, to take the NCLEX costs a lot of PESO (we need to have at least P80,000, weew thats a lot of money...) or
$1,200 ++...it will be a big risk to take it right away, while the CG exam fee is $300, its expensive though, but it's more cheaper than risking your $1200... secondly, the CGFNS exam are more or less the same with the NCLEX, because it was patterned basing on the standards of nursing practice in america...so, by the time you'll take the NCLEX you have the idea of how the exams are made. finally, NCLEx needs a big preparation considering the expenses. The cgfns mam is not the same as our local board, it needs a lot of reading and analysis ( i mean, computations.)... so, i strongly suggest to take the CG first this march.... then u can start to apply for the nclex while waiting for the cgfns exam..
