hello... i am a Filipino nurse, i got my license here in Phils. last december 2004. Then, i took the CGFNS last july '05, i passed (thanks GOD!). Now, i'm planning to take the IELTS exam this october for me to have a lifetime certificate of my CGFNS and for my visascreen....after which, i'm planning to take the NCLEX exam early next year..
I would like to ask if what Board of nursing in USA that has the fastest processing, because as what i have heard from my friends, BON of California took at least 6 months to release the eligibility. so, i guess it's too long for me to wait, can anyone help me what state has the fastest processing that will take only 2 months to release my eligibility?thank you...
We Filipinos need to take the CGFNS. Firstly, the CGFNS is patterned from the NCLEx, only that the CG is not a computer-based exam than the latter. Secondly, because the CGFNS prepares us to take the NCLEX and how is the nursing care done in the states. so, if we pass the CG there is a little risk of failing the NCLEX. Lastly, NCLEX is very expensive exams for us (Filipinos) considering the airfare to HONGKONG and all the budgets. Typical Filipino
The exams are nothing like the other. To say that you must take the exam is incorrect. If you are doing it because of the expense of the other, that is another story. But it isd not required. That is something that you decide to do. There are actually many RNs from the Philippines that did not take the CGFNS exam.
CGFNS is nothing like the NCLEX in any way. It tests based on patho-physiology, disease processes, even medical English, etc. NCLEX assumes that you have learned this already in school, and tests on how you would use the information.
I prepare nurses for both exams, and even the preparation is completely different.
I learn a lot from your posts. Thank you for all the informations you shared.
I sent my application forms for California Board of Registered Nursing for NCLEX exam to my employer but was told to retake my TOEFL/TSE exam because it was expired already ( Test Taken February/April 2003). Should I really need to retest? By the way I already had a CGFNS and VisaScreen Certificate. Please help!

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH YOUR EMPLOYER...
You do not need to retake the Toefl/Tse if you have a visa screen certificate already.
The U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act Section 212 law only states that the requirements are passing exams recognized by the U.S. Gov't, passage of an English Exam and the Visa Screen Certificate. If you have an UNEXPIRED Visa Screen Certifcate already you do not need to retake the English EXAMS. The VSC is all you need well in the consular processing. I do not know with your employer? Company policy perhaps?:rotfl:
Look at your visa screen certificate... i may quote "... has met all the requirements of section 212(a)(5)© of the Immigration and Nationality Act as specified in Title 8, Code of Federal Regulations section 215.15(f) for the profession of: Registered Nurse
I can furnish you a copy of this 2 laws...it DID NOT state that during the time of your interview and/or giving of a visa and/or receiving or requirements for a greencard and/or seeking admission to the United States YOU POSSESS AN UNEXPIRED ENGLISH TEST RESULTS... All you need is PASSAGE OF THOSE EXAMS and PRESENTATION/posssesion OF an UNEXPIRED VISA SCREEN CERTIFICATE.
Be logical, how can they make the Exams only valid for 2 years when it takes around 2 years to have the entire consular process complete?
If you do not have a Visa Screen Certificate and when your english exams expires then that's a big problem...

while waiting for your papers to be done, find a hospital where you can practice as a nurse and get the necessary skills to prepare you to work here. while many employers get new grads, it is for your own consumption. it is very difficult to come here and work without any clinical experience at all. so while you have time there, get a nurse job and learn the most of it. this is just my advice.
Tnx for the post! but I think you misinterpreted what I had mentioned a while ago.I have not taken my cg yet but I am making ways to get it by march of next year which is the next exam date. However, I am making troubles which documents to pass
. The school sent a separate documents and my friends are telling me things differently regarding which docs should I send to cg main office. I am also looking for review centers for ielts, although i am a second courser (AB Communication Arts) I am kinda anxious on what to expect pa kasi. Is it alright to spend my days working as a teacher while awaiting for my exams? or should I give in being a clinician? Are there employers who can sponsor nurses who were not able to practice their profession? have you taken your ielts? :)
I am sorry, I misread your post, if you already have the Visa Screen Certificate then you are all set. With just the CGFNS Certificate, you would be out of luck.Sorry, but your employer has wrong information.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION. This employer of mine gives me so much headache. I'm just praying that I can already work there and finish the contract so that I could look for better job oppurtunity.
I'm so happy to inform also that I was issued an immigrant visa already. I learn a lot from your post. GOD BLESS US ALL ALWAYS!!!!!!

Hi Yes CGFNS is a must and i think you should concentrate first in reviewing CGFNS before taking IELTS if you want. You have to follow up calling CGFNS what document you missed or by logging in your account on line much better. Goodluck :)
