Filipinos who wants to take the NCLEX

hello... i am a Filipino nurse, i got my license here in Phils. last december 2004. Then, i took the CGFNS last july '05, i passed (thanks GOD!). Now, i'm planning to take the IELTS exam this october for me to have a lifetime certificate of my CGFNS and for my visascreen....after which, i'm planning to take the NCLEX exam early next year..

I would like to ask if what Board of nursing in USA that has the fastest processing, because as what i have heard from my friends, BON of California took at least 6 months to release the eligibility. so, i guess it's too long for me to wait, can anyone help me what state has the fastest processing that will take only 2 months to release my eligibility?thank you...

while waiting for your papers to be done, find a hospital where you can practice as a nurse and get the necessary skills to prepare you to work here. while many employers get new grads, it is for your own consumption. it is very difficult to come here and work without any clinical experience at all. so while you have time there, get a nurse job and learn the most of it. this is just my advice.

Hi!!! Actually I have spoken with my sister this early morning( Philippine time) > She told me that it's actually my choice whether to have a nurse job as early as now or what. I have told her that while im still earning as an academician , this will be my bullet to at least pay for most of the documentation fees and for some of my review. But she told me that the agency there in US is looking for candidates who are experienced in clinical setting for at least a minimum of two years. I'm actually anxious on what to prioritize. To be a first entry nurse here in the philippines would mean sacrificing my income which also means i will not receive a pay for my work. and thats basically the reson why im ambivalent. experience wise, it would give me the necessary skills for the attainment of my mission. but then, i still have to... you know make a living since im a family person. i have a kid, she's 4 years old and in kinder right now. my husband works as a nutritionist-dietitian cum fitness instructor at one of the premiere spa. but id like to thank for your post coz it somewhat rang my bell.....

thanks.. hope to hear more from you...\

by the way, where are you now working?

babytaz:

i strongly suggest that you place a premium on gaining clinical experience.

fulfilling the GC dream means having to make sacrifices, tightening the belt, and making compromises.

what you will not earn in terms of money, you'd earn tenfold in terms of actual nursing experience.

no foreign nurse should feign actual nursing knowledge and skills. what's at stake is your competence to provide excellent care for your patients, and your integrity as a filipino nurse working in a foreign land.

be inspired from other nurses in this forum who toiled and devoted themselves 100% into their chosen profession. they'd attest to you that the sacrifice is much worth it in the end. for you. for your family.

thanks

Thanks for the post nurse dependent. after a few hours of balancing my heart and mind i eventually came up to a decision to indulge to the profession i swore. last time, i went to two premiere hospitals here in the philippines and i applied for the position of a nurse. i was advised to wait for a call to set for an interview and hopefully for the examinations. thanks for your concern. may god bless you and your family. hope we could exchange more ideas. you can send me your email address and hope to communicate with you regularly.

your decision would actually depend on your main objectives.

another scenario is putting 100% of your time to the process of applying for a GC. status quo. remain an academician. skim through this forum, this will provide you with an idea on the things that you need to accomplish (ie NCLEX, Visascreen). your prospective employer has to file your I-140, etc.

remember, you have a looming second wave of retrogression to consider.

look at it this way... after you're done with all the exam requirements, you can then practice your profession and gain some work experience while waiting for the immigration process to come into fruition.

i suggest that you put in some more hours (or days) for balancing your heart and mind. deliberate the inputs provided by other good people in this forum. the decision you make will affect the future of your family.

i sent you a PM.

to all those taking the NCLEX soon....

best of luck!!!! :rotfl:

may we all reach that dream of finally acquiring that elusive green card...

never give up...

"with God, anything is possible" :)
