Fear and Anxiety

This virus is scary, especially with so many not following the rules and recommendations.

Published

The only two stores that I go to are the grocery store and the gas station. People are not wearing a mask or gloves.

I asked one man at a grocery store, (who wasn't wearing a mask or gloves), "Aren't you scared about getting the coronavirus?" He said, "No, I've been to two other countries and haven't caught anything."

Then I see parents in the grocery stores with their child in the seat and they're holding onto the handle, and I was thinking, I hope that child will not catch anything. What are these people thinking?

I wish the president would say that everybody entering a store, gas station, & etc. has to wear a mask and gloves to enter. It is these people who are going to spread it to someone, and then that person spreads it to so and so, and on and on. This just showed me all these people that do not wear a mask do not care about children or the elderly. There are a lot of people in this world that don't care and I've seen it. SHAME ON THEM!!

I want to get back to socializing. I can't even go to church and be with my church family because of this virus. I miss being around them. I also miss being around my grandbabies and all my loved ones and friends.

My anxiety is through the roof! When I do go to these two places, I just get out start walking into the store like always and think, "Oh my gloves and my mask." Then I start talking to God, and say "Please DEAR LORD let people listen about wearing gloves and masks so other people don't get it and die."

We need to get this pandemic taken care of. I just think it should be mandatory for everybody that goes to the stores, gas stations, etc. to wear masks and gloves. And maybe we can get this thing under control and go back to a normal life.

I feel sorry for people out of work. Because some of them don't have the money for their bills. I'm sure it's been like a small vacation for them, but I would like for them to get back to their jobs and get the economy going again, so everybody is paying their bills correctly and not worrying.

HEROES, KEEP STAYING SAFE. NURSES, DOCTORS, & FRONTLINERS, YOU ARE THE BEST!! MAY GOD KEEP YOU SAFE FROM THIS PANDEMIC.

You deserve a wonderful vacation to wherever you want.

Small prayer... Please dear Lord Will you keep my brother safe as he is really in the front lines in the hospitals not just one but a few because he is a director of them. And he has diabetes. Keep you're umbrella over him so that he is safe. AMEN!

I hope that soon the president will make everybody wear gloves and mask until this virus is over.

THANK YOU!!

EDITED TO ADD

I found out that the President said the Coronavirus Committee recommended that everyone should wear masks in public and that it is up to the Governor of each state to make sure that this happens.

I don't think we are ready to open up businesses because people are not wearing masks. I know people need their money, and I miss going in restaurants, grocery stores, etc. without having to wear my mask.

Please, everyone, be careful!

This should be a wake-up call for the United States of America. None of us were prepared for this deadly virus.

I guarantee I will be stocking up on all kinds for items and be ready.

Just like we have to be ready and get our tornado precautions together during tornado season. Please businesses, I hope they do like everything they are supposed to so that we may not continue to spread this virus around. Good luck businesses I'm glad that you are getting to open. I'm just scared that it will still spread.

Everyone be safe and God bless you!

We've done more than enough at this point. Apparently the economy collapsing and having meat and other food shortages isn't sacrifice enough for some people. Time to move on with our lives already. Corona corona corona. We have other issues, too.

You come across as callous and cavalier about others. I find that disturbing in a psych nurse. Just sayin’.

I’d go all jules winnfield on you but siri asked me not to do that anymore and I respect her wishes.

So you mention the economy as evidence that we've done enough to control the contagion and disease? Are patients cured when a certain dollar amount is spent or when the patient is bankrupt? Is that how health efforts are evaluated for effectiveness...not on patient outcomes but on how much money was spent? The USA had the highest costs for some of the worst outcomes.

Conversely, is the economy really healthy if 3000+ people/day die in order to get or keep businesses open? We also have the highest COVID infection rate, what does that say about our economy? Are health and money interchangeable in our efforts and priorities?

Edited.

Realized I couldn't help.

Absolutely money matters. Nurses and doctors, and the rest of the healthcare staff, are not going to work for free if the U.S. economy collapses due to complete inactivity and sky-high unemployment. We are part of a broader economic ecosystem that buttresses everything we do. No economy = no First World status = no Corona care for anyone any more.

Right, because when we have Cambodia-style food shortages and hunger because of a non-functioning economy, you'll be castigating the folks who dared speak out for the economy. The world doesn't revolve around Corona issues alone, you know.

Humanity sort of revolves around life, living, pursuit of happiness...that sort of thing. In the absence of life the economy is meaningless. In the absence of consumer confidence, retail stores for nonessential trinkets will be hurting for customers. In the absence of a healthy population, employers will be in need of a workforce.

Our federal government is functioning exactly the way the GOP wants it to function during a pandemic...Trump and his party designed this response. They staffed the pandemic response teams. The GOP decided how state health departments should be funded for 35/50 states for a decade.

The world is currently and correctly revolving around corona. Our government should revolve around the health and well being of We The People as it deals with Corona.

That's my initial point, though.

I want the economy to reopen. I want small businesses to stay afloat.

However, in order to do so, it would be prudent for everybody to wear masks to protect one another so that ultimately we're all protected.

You are falsely conflating personal liberties with the economy. Masking and re-opening the economy are not mutually exclusive. In fact, we can reopen the economy more safely (and ultimately save a lot of lives while simultaneously saving the taxpayers a ton of money!!) if obstinate people would just put on their big girl panties and wear the dumb mask.

Apparently they've tried mandating masks as businesses reopened in some cities, and they've had to revoke the mandate because cashiers and restaurants hosts have been getting death threats (I.e. coming back and shooting up the store). IMO, those people need to be thrown in jail.

I just saw an article that a security guard at a dollar store was shot and killed for enforcing a state-mandated masking policy. It's sickening. This was about as pre-meditated as it gets, and I think they all deserve the death penalty.

AND THIS WAS OVER A MASK! How could something so trivial drive someone to take another person's life?

Granted, it doesn't help that not far away, protestors are literally storming the governor's office armed with assault rifles.

(And before that special someone starts arguing about personal liberties and the Constitution, I have plenty of family who hunt and I'm in favor of the second amendment. However, I don't think people have the inalienable right to use guns to intimidate and bully others. Please refer back to my earlier statement about the government placing parameters on our personal liberties in the name of public safety.)

@Emergent posted a few weeks ago asking if COVID is the beginning of the breakdown of our society, and @LibraSunCNM had a great response:

The beginning? I think that started quite some time ago, but I'm cynical. This crisis is definitely pushing humanity to multiple breaking points.

The hyper-polarized, extremist US political climate prior to this crisis was a powder keg, and COVID just lit the fuse. I know that it has brought out the best qualities our most helpful citizens, but it has also brought out the worst qualities in our most destructive ones.

First it's the masks, then it's going to be something else they force you to wear. And do. And it's all going to be through the pretext of 'public safety' as usual. I'm not against wearing masks as long as it's voluntary and not through government coercion.

Ahh, the slippery slope appears. Give me an example of when the US government has done this where it affected you. How do you feel about seat belts?

I'm making popcorn, who else wants in? ???

Wearing seat belts is enough. Hell no to forced masks in public. Will the government mandate sunscreen? And ban "immodest" clothing like in Middle Eastern countries for "public safety" against incitement and immorality? Enough is enough. Mask your own damn self if you want. It's a FREE country and if you try to force people to mask up there's going to be a strong counterreaction against it.

You didn’t answer the question I posed. You simply added more “whatabout” scenarios.

And yeah, I will mask my own damn self as this is not about me. Are you reaching for your weapon as you mention strong counter-reaction?

“But I’m trying Ringo. I’m tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd.”
