Anyone else planning on applying to FCCJ's nursing program for Fall '09? I figured we might as well start a "support group" thread of sorts for those of us who are. Never too early to start, right?
Hello all,
I am also a new user as of today. I have spent some time reading over the Summer 09 classes posts. It looks like their letters took about 7 weeks to come in. I am not expecting anything different with our class, sad to say. It was funny reading their posts since I can tell we are right on track with our hair-pulling and nail biting!
Looks like Summer had a Duval/Nassau preference and I saw a 205 get in. Not sure what the lowest cut-off was though. Anyone got any news?

Last term we got our acceptance letters in small envelopes with a sticker on the back that indicated whether you were in Days or Nights/Weekends. We got the package later. It took the full 8 weeks.
How much time went by from the time you got the letter to when you got you packet. So did it take the full 8 weeks to get the acceptance letter or the packet?
Today I heard that starting with the fall 2009 class they are reserving a few spots for outside counties (besides nassau and duval)!! This is very good news for me since I live in Clay. I just hope I have enough points to get into one of those few spots....prayin for God's will. Good luck to everyone and I hope those letters come soon either way!
It was a full 8 wks for the initial letter. We were throwing fits! Basically, we don't have a perm head of the nursing dept and things were in transition and that caused the problem.
I was accepted to nights/weekends. I have yet to cross paths with anyone from the prior semester. Once you get started, you get very narrow focused. There is a lot to do and even more to learn!
Last I heard, for the summer 190.x was the cutoff. We did have a couple of folks I saw at orientation that were offered slots declined by others and they had NO prep time prior to the orientation!
Realize this.....there are more of us "2nd career" folks looking for slots than there were before. (Due to the economy) As a result, you will see higher acceptance points required and larger applicant pool.
For those who are nervous, I would say if your points are 190 or above, you are pretty safe. Those that would have been ok in the past (185 - 190) may have reason for concern. Those below 185....well, I would pray real hard or take the NAT over or take a course or 2 over to increase your points.
This program was competitive before.....I have a suspicion that it will only get worse as time progresses and the economy stays dampened.
OK Guys and Gals, you all were really freaking me out and I was thinking I am good with everything coming in with my points at 208.92. All this discussion with counties was what I was starting to get concerned about so I went to my application packet and looked it up. I have read it over like five times so I wasn't sure what you all were going on about. So here it is word for word and quoted in the hopes that it will ease everyone's minds.
"Priority will be given to qualified applicants (Florida Residents) living in the program service district, which includes Duval, Baker, Clay, and Nassau counties. Qualified applicants will be selected for admission from a rank ordered list. If all qualified service district applicants have been selected for admission and there are additional openings to be filled, other Florida applicants will be rank ordered and the remaining selections made in the same manner. After all qualified Florida applicants have been selected, positions remaining open will be filled with qualified out-of-state applicants, using the same rank order process."
It is under the Admission Requirements and I am taking rank ordered to mean our points. So first we are placed in the county pile and then sorted by rank (points) and then all other counties are put in a pile and they are ranked. So for anyone not in these four counties there is a need for concern. Then out-of-staters are in a pile and they are ranked. So there you have it. Hope that helps ease some stress and lets keep waiting!! lol

Hey All, I don't think I made the cut for Fall, but I'm going to work hard to make up my points to apply next time. I currently have about 170, and did poorly on my NAT. I will be re-taking my NAT along with SYG, DEP and HUM. I made all B's in my pre-reqs, so I'm going to try really hard for A's in those I retake.
What do you suggest a good study guide would be for the math and verbal portion? I ordered the ARCO today, and noticed some said it doesn't help.
If you scroll up to the top to the search field, type in FCCJ Summer 09, click on the first link and go to the last page (63). FLmomof5 has answered this question on that forum. I believe she may have answered it in this forum too. You just have to look through the previous pages. Hope that helps!!
Stephanie09,
Thanks for pointing me to that page. I had read so many pages of their postings that I was cross-eyed so I stopped some where in the middle. As for what she wrote, ok, now I am a little scared!!! It seems that we will need to hit the ground running and that we will be rolling 4 days a week. I also have to keep in mind that Flmom is on the evening and weekend program so it maybe less stressful for the day people, I can only hope! I am also gathering that it is very reading intensive for the first semester. OK, I can handle that once I get organized. :) Let's just say I am a little concerned. Thanks again for the info.

Nothing for me today either. I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't be able to check again until Monday. I'm going to try and enjoy my short vacation and not think about it. It would be great though if there were a letter waiting for me when I get back....
