FCCJ SPRING 2010
They probably heard this from prior semesters. I am in Fall right now and you do have a medical terminology and dosage calulation test. The medical terminology is mostly A&P review. Like the names of the planes (transverse, midsagittal, etc). The med term book was a waste of money (my opinion). You only have one med term test and then you never use the book again. It is a good reference though if you are having trouble learning words that you will start hearing in the hospital. But that's really all it is, a reference. If you've taken the class before, your old book should be fine. They will tell you on BB what terms you need to know. The first dosage calc test is basic math really. The tests do get a little harder (you will have 3 tests total). So brush up on metric conversions and try not to let the fact that the tests are on the first day scare you!

They pass the bowl around and watch everyone pick a number. Then they call you up one at a time. Once you go up there and register you can leave. FutureRNmom, I can private message you I think, I just have to figure it out. Shands is not even an option first term, and you rotate hospitals every term.

This is how the lottery works. You are given a list of 12 different sections to choose from. The professors are a little different for each section, but the classes are the same. There is a hospital assigned to each section also. Pick your top 3 choices. Each person draws a number from a bowl and whoever has number one gets to pick their section first. Obviously the higher your number the less choices you will have, which is why you pick a top 3 b/c your first choice may not be available. If you bring a laptop to orientation you can look professors up at that time if you don't want to mess with making a list.

Oh, I also recommend going on ratemyprofessors.com, look up FCCJ (not sure if they made the change to FSCJ), look under Nursing department and take a piece of paper and right down each professor and their rating. There are quite a few professors on there that don't teach first term. The classes you will be taking first term are NUR1140, NUR1110, NUR1022C, and NUR1060C. Click on the different nursing professors and you can see what course they taught. Take this rating paper with you to orientation. You will be given different sections to choose from through a lottery, and you will want to know what professors you want to take when you register. (I hope this made sense, lol)

FCCJ SPRING 2010
I wish I could tell all of you that it's not going to be this disorganized once you're in, but unfortunately it doesn't stop here. You just have to learn to roll with the punches. But keep in mind that they have been going through a lot of changes so that may be why. And it's not really the professors that are disorganized, it's the program. All my professors have been WONDERFUL! Also, spring is the first semester they are emailing acceptance notifications, so there probably is a little confusion going on since it is new to them. Last term I saw people posting on the Fall thread that they were receiving their acceptance letters on Saturday, and I didn't get mine until Tues or Wed (I can't remember). So if you haven't received something yet, be patient, you will find out soon. Good luck!!

Congrats to everyone who got in!! Get ready for a wild ride! As far as the immunizations you can start those early, b/c titers can take time. If you wait to get them drawn and they come back negative then you have to get the vaccine and then have another titer drawn. You have to do this until you recieve a positive titer. I know for some vaccinations the sereis can take several weeks so start this part early! Your PPD and physical exam cannot be done before the date listed on your packet (I think someone mentioned the 20th). They will make you redo it if you are even a day too soon. For the Hep B I recommend opting out, but still get it done for your own protection. Then at least as far as the school is concerned you don't need to worry about it anymore, but financially you can do it at your own pace. Clinicals start the 8th week of the program. And for the fall, several people declined their seats, so if you're on the edge and get a denial letter there may still be hope!

FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...
Chemistry is just a prereq that you need to take Micro. It is not included in your point totals.

FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...
You have to have A&P complete before you even apply. You can be enrolled in Micro when you apply, but you have to have it completed bfore you start the program. It sounds like you are going to have to wait until the Summer to apply for the Fall.

FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...
Fall had over 600 applicants, of that 168 got seats, 24 of those being N/W. The cutoff was 190.72 For those of you with questions about how to calculate point totals if you get an application packet, the cover sheet goes over in detail about how to do it. You can also do a thread search for this information. You can get a max of 120 on the NAT and 120 from your prereqs, then you can get extra points for having medical experience. Also, the cutoff points represent the lowest amount of point that were admitted into the program. So if they get a lot of applicants with over 200 points the cutoff will go higher. Hope this helps some.

I would just save up for them. The bookstore sells all the books you need for the program in a box at a discount. You won't be able to purchase the box until after orientation. If you buy the books seperatley you will spend a couple hundred dollars more.

I got an email from Evolve saying "your insructor has enrolled you into Evolve, below is your user name and password". I didn't have to register at all. I wonder if we are all supposed to be getting our user name from the professor, or if it just depends on what professor you have if they do that or not.

I think the access code that the nursing tutor sent us was the administrative login, but the student access key number is where Tiara mentioned. I think the administrative login probably allows them to access more areas in Evolve than our access code.

The classes aren't posted on blackboard yet. The information to study for our first test can be found through the nursing tutor function (which is set up by you through blackboard). You should have an email from the nursing tutor (we can't post names on here) and she details what we need to study and when the test is.

I am so nervous! I already started studying for our medical terminology test b/c I have no background in it. I should have taken a med terminology class before I applied. The dosage calculations don't seem too bad. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Ok, so I called and I have Florida Prepaid which doesn't usually cover 100 percent, but for some reason it did. I would just recommend calling them. Maybe Bright Futures doesn't cover 100 percent for people who get it from here on forward, but since you've had it they will continue to cover you at 100 percent. Like being grandfathered in or something.
