Farmingdale State College

Published

Hi guys. I'm new to posting but I've been a long time lurker. I just wanted to know if anyone is in or is planning to attend Farmingdale State College. I want to go there but I want to know some more information about it. What are the pre-reqs for the LPN program? What is the lowest composite score that they look at? All other schools tell you this but I can't find that info anywhere on Farmingdale's website. I'm currently studying for the exam (even though I have NO IDEA when the next PAX-PN test is being given in NY). I got a B in Psych and also a B is English. I have to re-take A&P1 in the Fall because I didn't do so well in it. I'm trying my hardest to get an A in it so that they'll at least consider me for the program. I'm sorry for the long post but I'm just panicking because I have no clue what I'm really doing lol. I'd love if anyone/everyone could help me out. What other pre-reqs do I need for the PN program? Is it really hard to get into? I'm pretty much freaking out about....EVERYTHING:banghead:. I just don't feel like I'm doing enough. Seriously, do you all think I have a good shot at getting in with the grades I stated above?

Hey Neeniebean,

The only pre-req I still have is Micro to take. I was hoping to take it over the summer but wanted the first half of the summer and can't get the class I need

I wanted to also let you know- with the medical micro course- they're usually pretty good about trying to accomodate the students that are already accepted into the nursing program to get them into the course (even if its already full). If you really want to take it this summer, i would call them and tell them how much you need to take it before you start, and all of that- keep stressing that youre already in the program and how much you need to take it this summer. Its worth it to try. You'll soon find out with farmingdale (and w/ the nursing dept) that you really need to advocate for yourself and be persistent to get what you need.

Thank you so much for all the info Neeniebean. I already have my (hopeful) schedule for the next year written out in my notebook. Ill be running to the secratary too being I have 3 kids under 5 and really need to do the night thing. I have a great support system at home and my inlaws live in our house so I can be a little flexible If I really have to. Im assuming what you mean is there will be another orientation for the next group of Nursing students selected after April?

Also what is your opinion about Physiological Chem? Do you think that class is better to take with Nursing classes than Micro? BTW somehow I was able to register for Clinical Pharmacology intersession online classes now. I guess u dont need an advisor ALT code for intersession.

I cant tell you how much I appreciate your posts. I know you must have such a busy schedule but still you make time to help us. In 2 years....I will pay it foward to the next group!

Hey guys! I also got accepted into Farmingdale's Nursing program and will be starting this fall! I am very excited for orientation and to finally make my schedule and what not. I didn't think I would hear back from them until at least May, because that's what they told me, but I got my acceptance letter about two weeks ago! SO exciting- what a great surprise. I can't wait to start!!! I wonder how many people they accepted?!

Hey kwitty congrats!!!! What great news! Will you be going day or night program?

Hey Kwitty - if you dont mind me asking what were your grades?

I am doing my pre-reqs there as we speak. Was the entrance exam really hard?

Hi Guys,

I also got accepted, but I still don't know if this is the way to do it. I have my BS and all pre-req. I would only need the nursing classes and that's it. On one hand I'm thinking about Accelerated BSN, on the other I could still work, take 2 classes per semester and be RN with AS from Farmingdale. I'm being told that I could still go fo NP after 1 year because of my BS....

Decisions, decisions...

I am waiting to hear back from NCC also. I am just pursuing Farmingdale aggressively because its the only school I've heard back about my acceptance, however, NCC has a higher passing rate.

Quick question - this may be obvious but i just want to clarify :)

To take my pre-req's at Farmingdale, do I register as a non-degree student, or do I apply to another program and then after my pre-req's apply/transfer to the nursing program??

Thanks!!!

You know my input on the BS passing rate. Just very misleading! I hate that passing rate Bologna!!!

APAG,

If you register as a "non-matriculated" student you do not get any financial aid. Non matriculated means you do not have a major. I would suggest if Farmingdale has a major that you could be in while taking your pre-reqs such as a liberal arts you should do that so that you are eligible for financial aid. Then when it comes time you apply for the nursing program and they will switch the majors for you. But you can take the classes as a non-matric student you just wont be eligible for financial aid.

Thanks! Would you happen to know if I can still get federal financial aid even if I received financial aid for a previous bachelor's degree, but have not yet reached the maximum federal limits?

Apag,

Hmm... I really don't know about that and now that has me thinking. I already have an Associates degree, and last semester when I was taking my pre-reqs I was non-matriculated because A) I wasn't accepted into the nursing program yet and B) there were no other majors at my school (NCC) that I could pretend use as a major because I already had the A.S. So basically if you already have a BS in Communications you can't use that as another major. I had an Associates in Liberal Arts Humanities, but I couldn't fake being a Liberal Arts Math and Science because the two degrees shared over 30 credits.

I'm not sure if that makes sense typed out but hopefully its a little clear!
