Opening or Closing Doors?
Very stressed. I wasn't pursuing dialysis, the opportunity just presented itself. While it would definitely be a better position (at a better hospital, my current hospital is small, really being hit by poor HCAHPS) I was already almost laid off once because of staffing, that's how I ended up on the telemetry unit, through a bump (although that ended up being better for my career). I just hate to pass up a good opportunity but also hate to back myself into a corner. Gahhhhh!!!!

Opening or Closing Doors?
I have been at my first nursing job as a staff RN for a year and a half now. I was on med/surg for a year and then on the telemetry unit for the last 6 months. Yesterday I was contacted by a nurse recruiter to interview for an acute dialysis unit position. While I have no dialysis experience (other then doing my nursing leadership and management clinical for my bachelors degree with the Nurse Manager of an acute dialysis unit at a larger hospital then my own) she was eager to meet me. She then called me back today wanting to schedule an interview even sooner because not only her but the nurse manager of the dialysis unit really wanted to meet me as soon as possible. (Oh, how the tables have turned, went from not being able to get any job as a new, inexperienced nurse to being called 2 days in a row!!) Anyways, I was never really into dialysis and not sure how I feel about it. But what I am wondering is if this kind of position would open more doors for my professional career or will I be locked into this type of position as it is such a specialty. I am not sure where exactly I want to go in my career as I am still a baby nurse and only 25 years old, but I was always interested in CCU/ICU and oncology nursing. Would working in a dialysis unit be a good opportunity for this route or would I be closing some doors? Any opinions, thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New job...daily essentials?
I'll be starting my new job (first nursing) in a hospital on a med surg floor as well, I would also love to see examples of peoples brain sheets. I always thought about creating something like that during my preceptor but I wasn't sure if it was allowed really, so I just followed how my preceptor did her shifts.

Applying for out of state jobs as a new grad
I am also interested in applying out of state. I am from NY and it is almost impossible to find a job if you're mother is not the head of human resources. I was thinking of looking into PA, FL, NJ. Did anyone mention in their cover letters that they are willing to relocate and get the appropriate license or was it not mentioned at all? I am so unsure of how to go about applying out of state!

Applying Out of State
Hi Everyone, I am a new graduate nurse just passed my boards in August on Long Island in New York. I have been desperately applying to hospitals, SNF's doctors offices for 3-4 months now and not a single call back or interview. I am thinking of applying out of state in hopes that it is not as bad as it is here in New York. I was thinking of applying to either North Dakota, Florida, Pennsylvania. I am still a little confused about the nurse licensure compact but I guess what I am really wondering is am I allowed to apply out of state with my New York license and then get endorsed in another state? Or do you have to have the other states license first... Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

That is really awesome that you accelerated like that good for you! Being that I haven't even started any nursing classes yet I don't want to get ahead of myself looking to go faster haha. I was going to take Micro in the summer but I want to remain a full time student in the fall so I am going to take it with the other nursing classes and I am worried about that :X And yes I am doing the Associates program at Farmingdale and I'm super excited!

NYIT Questions!!!
Hello everyone, this question isn't necessarily for me but for my friend. We both applied to similar schools. I received an email from NYIT saying they would waive the $50 fee to apply but I didn't want to go there because it was for a Bachelors so I passed it on to a friend. She was rejected from the other schools she applied to but just found out today she was accepted to NYIT and was offered a $6,000 scholarship. Now I remember reading on the website and on this forum that NYIT... "The department is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and we are currently working toward accreditation by the AACN's Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), a national accreditation agency." Now I am not exactly sure what this means but I was told to stay away from it. I told her about it and told her to call the school and find out what that means, she told me NYIT said that they ARE accredited by NY and that it won't affect her at all, once she has completed her 4 years she will be put in the pool of other graduates to take her exam. Does anyone have any information on this? She wasn't accepted anywhere else for the Fall semester, but I don't want to see her go through 4 years at this school at $22,000 a year and come out with nothing. Thanks!!!!

Suffolk County Community College (Summer Classes?)
I applied in early January and JUST found out. SCCC didn't even require a test so I don't know what really takes them so long.

Suffolk County Community College (Summer Classes?)
Hey guys got my acceptance letter today for SCCC as well. However, I don't think I am attending. I am still having a toss up between NCC and Farmingdale. Farmingdale I am all registered for and done, NCC the orientation is May 18th. But SCCC is asking for $100 non refundable right away, and the orientation isn't even until June 16th so I am not really feeling that. But good luck and congratulations to everyone else!

Farmingdale State College
Apag, Hmm... I really don't know about that and now that has me thinking. I already have an Associates degree, and last semester when I was taking my pre-reqs I was non-matriculated because A) I wasn't accepted into the nursing program yet and B) there were no other majors at my school (NCC) that I could pretend use as a major because I already had the A.S. So basically if you already have a BS in Communications you can't use that as another major. I had an Associates in Liberal Arts Humanities, but I couldn't fake being a Liberal Arts Math and Science because the two degrees shared over 30 credits. I'm not sure if that makes sense typed out but hopefully its a little clear!
