Farmingdale State College

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi guys. I'm new to posting but I've been a long time lurker. I just wanted to know if anyone is in or is planning to attend Farmingdale State College. I want to go there but I want to know some more information about it. What are the pre-reqs for the LPN program? What is the lowest composite score that they look at? All other schools tell you this but I can't find that info anywhere on Farmingdale's website. I'm currently studying for the exam (even though I have NO IDEA when the next PAX-PN test is being given in NY). I got a B in Psych and also a B is English. I have to re-take A&P1 in the Fall because I didn't do so well in it. I'm trying my hardest to get an A in it so that they'll at least consider me for the program. I'm sorry for the long post but I'm just panicking because I have no clue what I'm really doing lol. I'd love if anyone/everyone could help me out. What other pre-reqs do I need for the PN program? Is it really hard to get into? I'm pretty much freaking out about....EVERYTHING:banghead:. I just don't feel like I'm doing enough. Seriously, do you all think I have a good shot at getting in with the grades I stated above?

Hey Old Cat Lady !!!!! Ill see you this fall. I just got accepted to Farmingdale's RN program too. I Graduated with an associate in Liberal Arts from I Farmingdale. I graduated from NYIT with a BS in Elementary Education. I was a teacher for a few years, and now Im returning to Farmingdale for a career change. The orientation I heard is on April 17th from 9-3 to choose a clinic site and get a handbook.

Yay!! Congrats belladciccio!!!! I was so excited when I got my packet.. came pretty early too! The only thing that sucks is that I have soooo many questions and the only number they give you is to the Chair of the Nursing Dept. and I'm obviously not going to call and bug her haha. I know the orientation is the 17th but now that seems so far!!! Does everyone register for the fall then or do people register before? I am such a nervous nelly I just want to figure everything out. Are you CPR certified? I have to take a course being that you need the certification before starting, I am not sure where to take it because I want to make sure I take the right class.

You know how it says there is a $75 fee for orientation.. do you know when or how we pay that? Do we just bring a check to the school that day?

Ramble over.. anyways congratulations on getting in and I'll see you soon haha!!

I actually didnt get the packet yet. I took my NLN Friday, then brought my transcript over. The admissions "guy" (lol I forgot his name) looked over my score and transcipt and said "ok, im putting you in the program for the fall". I was so shocked after the 4 hour test i had just endured that I said "...the Nursing program???????" He said my letter will come in a few weeks (they said we will here from them after Easter if we were accepted at the actual test). I need to get CPR certified too. I WANT TO BUY MY UNIFORMS LOL!!!! Did the packet say anything about that?

Yeah I said CPR, we need to take a CPR class but it has to be a certain one so I don't want to register for the wrong one :X

Yup the package mentioned uniforms! I looked online at them already lol. I can't wait to buy my name patch that says Farmingdale Nursing Student!!

Thats so cool that you got accepted right on the spot you must have done AWESOME on the test!

I did pretty good on the test. The science especially which really got me in I think. I have a lot of credits too and a BS so I think that helped. What did it say about Uniforms? plain white, no tunics ( the pretty wrapped looking ones)? They sell the patch at the bookstore right?

I surprisingly did the best on the science part too. And also I already have an Associates from NCC so I had all my pre-reqs and then some so that definitly helped in my admissions. Umm I took a look at the uniforms and I think they are button ups and you buy it all from a website. A friend of mine who is in the Dental Hygiene program said that during orientation they fit you and give you more information. it just seems so far away!

OMG fittings!!! This is really happening lol!

Belladciccio and oldcatlady71, I am readying your threads and getting SOOO excited for you all!!!!! I cant wait for my day to come you have no idea!!

I am currently taking my pre-reqs at Farmingdale and will be applying for Fall 2011. I am SOO excited and CAN NOT wait to apply and get in!!! Just curious...do you get to choose the hospital you want to do clinicals at? What are the choices?

I feel your excitement...I too can not wait to get in my nurses uniform but I have such a long time =(

I already finished ENglish 1&2, Psych 1, and this semester I am finished Statistics and Psych2. In September I am going to be starting my 4 sciences (A&P I&2, Micro, and Chemistry) but I am taking them one at a time to ensure I get a good grade. I work full time so I cant do too much unfortunately but as soon as I finsh A&P2 I am applying.

I know it is early but I too mave a BAZILLION questions. Please continue to post info about Farmingdale...even if it is little things like the uniforms or orientation....the little things get me excited because I know/hope I too will be in both of your shoes. I wish you both the BEST of luck!!

Yeah I said CPR, we need to take a CPR class but it has to be a certain one so I don't want to register for the wrong one :X

You just have to make sure to take the CPR/BLS that's for "Healthcare providers". They go over use of the AED and all that stuff too. There's lots of places that you can take it, but Just make sure that whatever you do, you sign up for the one that is for Healthcare Providers.

Sounds like they have new uniforms- that's awesome. You guys don't know how lucky you are lol I graduated last year (may '08) and the uniforms we had were straight from 1968, i believe lol Terrible! I'm in the process of packing and moving and just came across those pants today- i couldnt throw them out fast enough! I think they came all the way up to my chest. It's about time they changed that!

Good luck at Orientation. Try to go there with an idea of what hospitals youre interested in and what time slot you want. Different days (or evenings) are at different hospitals. Like, if you want a Saturday morning, there's probably only going to be a couple of hospitals to choose from, but if you are opened to weekdays (day or night), there's more flexibility. Then you can focus more on which hospital you want to go to. I wanted to be close to home, so that narrowed it down to NUMC or Winthrop for me. I went to NUMC my first semester and then Winthrop for the next 3- just to give you an idea.

Also, just another heads up- keep copies of EVERYTHING that you hand into the nursing dept or just f'dale in general. It's just easier to have the back up when they say they never received it. Good luck!

Kukalra this will be you too soon. Stay dedicated! Here is great advice for you. Buy a digital voice recorder (about $30 in staples or Best Buy). Record your A+P lecture. You will be amazed how much you missed while writing your notes in class. Fill in your notes. Study with a highlighter (it helped me remember. I almost saw the highligthed answer in my head during the test). Dont be afraid to be a geek. Show your professor you are serious. They get a lot of people who want to float into Nursing. They like to see student who is really interested. It makes their job feel worth while (this comming from a teacher, its feels really good when you see people retaining what youve taught). An A in A+P makes all the difference. Youve got this! Also, i was going to apply for Nassau and Suffolk too. Their qualifications are different. Check their sites too. Study that NLN and your in business! You can do it.

Neeniebean, do you know what hospitals Farmingdale works with? I live in Deer Park but I travel a lot between Nassau County and where I live.. I'd be comfortable with somewhere inbetween but will really take whatever I can get!

Thanks Bella..you're the best. Thanks for the advice I definately will go get that voice recorder before I start in September.

Have you decided yet which hospital you want to work in?

Are you enrolled in a day or evening program. When I get in I am going to have to go for evening.

Stupid question - when you pick a hospital that becomes the hospital you will always go to when being trained in the hospital and doing clinicals? What are the choices?
