False reporting to BON

Hello everyone!

I am a new graduate and sit for NCLEX next week. It was brought to my attention today that a former classmate who is very mentally unstable has made a report against me to the BON for harassment.

I befriended this girl because she is "different" and always seemed to have health issues or to be going through some crisis. Looking back it was likely do to wanting attention.

After some Facebook drama she created I decided to delete her and the next thing I know she is making false accusations that I would call her names and text her nasty things. Apparently she has been saying this to teachers and mentors as far back as 6 months ago. Which is disturbing because I cut ties with her only 2 days ago.

Im scared because I have never been mean to her and certainly never harassed her. I was always supportive and encouraging. I feel like she believes the lies she's telling.

She has made statements about her being suicidal and hearing voices etc.

This girl is mentally unstable and practicing as a nurse. AND accusing me of harassing her.

How do I go about handling this?

Do I contact the BON?

Do I ignore this?

feeling very concerned ... If she can do this to her fellow classmates what is she capable of doing to a patient who says something to upset her?

In my experience, it is best not to "friend" (in any way) an unstable person. You may want to help them, but they may want to harm you.

Yet, sometimes you just don't know how unstable they are until you get to know them better.

Exactly! When I read the advice to avoid befriending an unstable person, I thought, "well, duh!" It's not as if anyone does that on purpose. In my experience, unstable folks can be extremely cunning. They often are aware of their issues and can hide their telling traits quite well.

I think OP had a kind heart and was just trying to be a friend to someone who appeared to need one.

As you are not a licensed nurse, the BON could give not give a rat's patootie about this " claim".

You do not have a license to make a claim against.

Should you ignore it.. yes. However, I am enough of a beeyotch to report her.

I would ignore her, she may just want a reaction so don't give it to her. I also would not call the board, her claims don't seem to have merit and if they found them credible/worth investigating, they would surely contact you.

Unfortunately, most of us have dealt with a toxic person before. Just remember this, "Ignorance goes away when ignored."

If you're not licensed yet she can't report you to the board but you sure can report her! She may need to find that out the hard way.

Why report someone to the BON based on the info that "she reported you to the BON" ??

Info that was heard secondhand from another person?

The BoN has bigger fish to fry. Move on.

She told teachers that she reported a few of us former classmates to the BON for "harassment."

I am sure I could report her however contacting the BON would be for one reason and one reason only. To destroy someones life and that is just not something I would ever do.

I am sure she will eventually be reported by someone with merit, a co worker or manager one day.

Going to just move on with my life.

The BON has bigger fish to fry than someone with an axe to grind. I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

How did the teachers respond to her nonsense?

The teachers babied her..... Knew she was full of it and let her continue. They could have removed her from the program but chose to keep her. Concerning because everyone knows she is capable of really harming someone
