Fall 2011 Western University of Health Sciences MSN-E

Published

Anyone applying to WesternU's MSN-E program? If so, do you know when they will start the interview process? What they look for in their applicants (gpa, extracurricular, etc)?

Current students--What were your stats like?

Any information would be helpful =)

Thanks in advance!

I am also applying to Azusa Pacific University, Cal Baptist University, and UCLA. If I don't get into Western or any of the other schools I will continue to apply to Cal State Fullerton and Loma Linda. Anyone else apply to the same schools?

Thank you Jes24, for the feedback.

I applied to:

Western(obviously)

Azusa

Samuel Merrit

Creighton University (ABSN)

Georgetown (ABSN)

Rutgers (ABSN)

Thinking about applying to Loma Linda as well ...I'm really crossing my fingers for at least one of the California ones as they are all the Master's Entry programs and that would also mean staying in California. =)

You don't happen to know how many people they said they were going to interview, do you? I spoke with one of the admissions people and they said that they were looking at 250-300+ applications. I'm not sure if that was total or just the ones that they were looking to pull interviews from.

I heard that they were actually interviewing that many people (250-300). They usually get like 600 applications total and then only interview the qualified applicants.

That would seem like a lot to interview in just 4 weeks. I was told that they were reviewing 250-300 applications I don't see how they could possibly interview that many people with just 3 days a week to interview people for 3-4 weeks. I might put in a call today to see what the real numbers are.

How many people were in your interview group? Do you have groups? I guess i'm a little confused about the format of the interviews can someone break it down for me?

My friend told me that there are two sessions per interview day a morning and afternoon session. She went to the morning session and there were 17 people in her group. Part of them would do the essay portion while others were interviewed individually by 2 of the faculty members. Then they toured the campus.

I still think that interviewing 250+ people would be a lot if they are only going to accept 60 or so. Also, I thought that they were taking approximately 70.

This is from their FAQs section

Question 1: How many applicants are granted interviews? How many are accepted into the class?

Generally, the admission committee selects 100 applicants for interviews and selects 60 applicants into the class. Typically, an alternate list of qualified applicants is formed, and referred to as it becomes necessary.

My group had about 20 in it and we were divided into 3 groups. In those groups u rotate : interview, writing portion and tour. Every group does it in a different order. I had my interview first then the writing then the tour. They do have two sessions a day a morning and an afternoon. There are like 6 or 7 interview dates. So they interview approximately 40 a day times the amount of interview dates. However, I don't know if they always have two sessions a day. They will be very willing to answer all your questions on your interview date.

I still think that interviewing 250+ people would be a lot if they are only going to accept 60 or so. Also, I thought that they were taking approximately 70.

I think that they have to interview that many people because some people who are accepted may not go to the school. They also want to get to know the people they are going to accept as they don't just strictly go based on academics as character counts in their selection process. I received an acceptance letter in the mail Saturday and am still debating whether or not to go to Western or a different school.

Wow!! Congratulations Maxpower! When was your interview with Western? Mine was Jan 29th and I haven't heard anything. :(
