Hello, I will be one of the new grads entering in this October start --- very anxious and excited! I'll be working in 1C - Geriatrics. I moved out from California, and am currently living in Alexandria, VA. However, I am hoping to move into the city (preferably Columbia Heights neighborhood), soon. =) If anyone is looking or interested in potentially looking for a room-mate situation, please let me know. I am not in any rush, but would like to start looking for new living arrangements. I look forward to meeting everyone during Orientation!

Hello Everyone, I've created a group page on FB. Just look up George Washington University ABSN Class of 2012. If there are issues, please post on here and I'll see what I can do. I've never created a page for anything, but here's to trying! I know we received an email recently about getting contact info in the next few weeks, but figured I'd make the page anyway to get a jump start. =) I'm really excited to meet you all and can't wait for August to arrive!

Hello all, I know this has come up a bit already, but is anyone else facing having to decide between GW and Georgetown? I'm having a difficult time, as I'm really drawn to both (granted the scholarship plays a HUGE factor). Just curious... =) Good luck to all those writing the essay!

hi dfarrington, I'm coming from Northern California! Close, but not close enough, huh? =) I was going to start one, but I'm not sure of where I'm attending yet. But I think to set up the FB page, on the login page, there's a little link that says, "Create a page." As for inviting everyone who is interested, I think it'd be easier to just post the link on this thread. Just a thought and hope it helps! =)

Hi AMM, I'm not too sure as I am coming from cali and don't know much about commute and traffic. Regardless, I'll be commuting from Lorton as that's where I'll be staying. I also now am not sure if I'll be attending because I just got my acceptance to Georgetown. YIKES! =) Excited, but the pricetag to GU is A LOT to swallow. So we'll see. I gotta sit down and think of pros and cons. Anyway congrats to those who got accepted and maybe I'll get to meet you all soon! =)

Congrats to all those who got accepted into the program. So exciting && I can't wait to meet you all at orientation! =) For those who are waiting, I'm crossing my fingers for you! =) I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to set up a FB page just to start meeting people and start connecting ... any interest? Especially as talks about commuting and living situations are coming up on here, just thought I'd ask. =)

Congrats ktg! so exciting! The financing is a bit worrisome and am in the same boat. I have not done anything yet in regards to private loans...just have done the fafsa. Guess it's time to start shopping. Do you think you will accept? @clarkc: after I received that email, it took about a month... Good luck!

As of now, I am going to GWU. I sent in my deposit ab couple weeks ago. I am still waiting for a few other schools, so we'll see. =D congrats on your acceptances to the other schools. That's awesome! I will be living with family who are in Lorton, so ill probably be commuting from there. =)

Hello Everyone, Here is some info I gathered from a student currently in the program: 1. What has been your experience so far in the program? Negatives? Positives? This may sound cheesy, but I really do enjoy this program. It is very intense and stressful, (being completely honest, here), but I would have been foolish to not have expected that from this, or any other program similar to this one. Positive: The instructors are almost always available to tend to your questions/concerns, whether day or night, weekend, inclement weather.. whatever! If you need help, they make the best efforts to help you, as long as you are showing that you've been helping yourself first. Meaning, if you show that you've been putting forth the effort. Negative: THIS PROGRAM IS VERY TIME CONSUMING. I don't want to scare you, but there is a reason they suggest that you don't work during the duration of this program. 2. Where do most students live? In this program, there are students that live all over the DMV (DC/MD/VA) area. There are some students that live down the street from the campus and others that commute from as far as West Virginia. Some people commute and carpool together and some take public transportation. The great thing about going to school in our area is that there is a free shuttle that will pick you up, and take you to campus from the West Falls Church metro station. The same shuttle also connects students from the main campus at Foggy Bottom to the Virginia Campus and back. 3. What is your current schedule? What are some other clinical sites other students have been placed? Here is my schedule this semester: Monday: clinical at the Virginia Hospital Center from 6:30-7p Tuesday: Classes from 8:30-1:30p Wednesday: Class from 8:30-10:30, then lab from 10:30-3:30p Thursday: Class from 8:30-10:30 Friday: Clinical at GW Hospital from 2-10p Last semester, I was at INOVA Loudon Hospital for long-term care and Virginia Hospital center for med/surg. This semester, I am at Virginia Hospital Center for med/surg, was at Fairfax Hospital for OB/Maternity and am now at GW Hospital for my psych clinical. Some people go to Prince William Hospital, or Reston Hospital for their clinical sites, as well. 4. How much time is spent in the Sim lab? How much time was spent in the Sim Lab before going to clinical sites? Before being sent to your clinical rotation sites, you will learn the skill fundamentals. For the first couple of weeks, you will be practicing and reviewing skills in lab that you will need to know for your clinical sites. The lab area simulates a real hospital and the mannequins react like real people. They blink, they have hear rates and respiratory sounds, they bleed, urinate and blink their eyes, and they even react to certain complications the way people would react like have a seizure, code, or need to have an IV. Lab is very helpful in preparation to your clinical sites, and therefore you will spend much of your time practicing. 5. Anything about reimbursement programs or scholarships that students receive? Currently, the only scholarship that I am aware of is the Cohn scholarship that offered $1000 to two of our classmates. Whether or not that scholarship will be offered to your class, I am not sure. However, if you can find a private scholarship through a hospital, that may be the most beneficial. I am not currently aware of anyone receiving financial assistance other than loans. 6. Do you know how easy it is to transition into the Master’s program since the last 12 units are counted as graduate units? I am not sure as to the transition process to a master's program at GW. I imagine that with us taking graduate level courses that it may be helpful to our application process to a graduate program. Although I am not sure as to how nursing credits transfer, if you were interested at a master's program at GW, they may be more accepting of their own credits. _____ So there you go. I thought it was very helpful, and I actually heard from her very quickly, I just didn't post as it's been very busy. Hope it helps everyone else. =)
