Anyone applying to WesternU's MSN-E program? If so, do you know when they will start the interview process? What they look for in their applicants (gpa, extracurricular, etc)?
Current students--What were your stats like?
Any information would be helpful =)
Thanks in advance!
Each interview group had 18 people in it. For mine, 3 people didn't show up to their interviews! I'm guessing this might've happened to other groups also so the amount of people they actually interview might be a lot lower than what they expected. Good luck everyone!
I'm still waiting for my acceptance to Western.. however I've been admitted to Columbia University and is highly considering it despite the expenses...... hello to 500,000 debt........
Thank you tweetychick, This was the first time I have applied to Western. They thought I was a good student so they sent me the invitation for "Early Acceptance." I got 4.0 in the science prereqs and have some prior experience in the medical field. I also got some good recommendations from professors so thats why I think got invited.
can someone please clarify something about western msn-entry program for me? How long is the program beginning to end? My understanding is that is it 4 semesters to get your RN license and then 8 more semesters after that to finish the FNP program. Is this correct? if i am right, its an extremely LONG program for someone doing direct entry, dontcha think?
Could i also hear what you all think about the quality of FNP rotations for this program if you know? Just curious :)
MSN-E FNP track takes 4 years because the first 4 semesters is the pre licensure portion. the last 3 years are distance based learning (online classes, and you have 2 seminars a semester that you have to attend). You can't start the masters portion (the last 3 years) of the program until you have passed the NCLEX and began working as a RN. This is of concern because if we start this fall, we won't graduate until 2015...and if the new law passes that we have to have a doctorates to practice as an NP then we would have to do another 2 years to get a DNP (since we won't be meeting the 2015 law).
hey maxpower,
i was at the early acceptance day too and just got my acceptance letter in the mail last saturday as well. how are you deciding whether or not to go to western? their $500 nonrefundable deposit is pretty expensive and i'm not sure if i can afford that right now, especially since i am waiting to hear back from other schools too.
Hi all,
I have a couple of questions, particularly for those who have already been interviewed...
First question: I've been rolling the numbers in re to tuition; am I correct that the program will cost over 200k, or have I completely misunderstood how everything is calculated?
And second question: for those who have had interviews, did you pose the question about meeting the possible 2015 FNP/DNP deadline? When I asked my counselor she had not heard of the ruling, so she wasn't able to provide anything more than what I had read. I was wondering if the interviewing committee had any additional information about that for new students and what it means for us as (potential) students graduating in 2014/15.
Thanks!!
Hey sahar, I got a 3.19 for my bachelor's. I debating between most the CSU's and
UCLA in addition to Western.
Hey Meeeshelllie, yeah i am having trouble coming up with the $500 deposit as well. I have been looking around for information regarding the reputation of the school online and asking what nurses think about Western or if they have heard of it.

Thanks Jes, I didn't have a formal interview. I was invited to "Early Acceptance Day" so I went to that in lieu of an interview. I have still have to decide where I want to go though as a I applied to a few other schools.
