Yuck.
How are the parents planning for her to get home? Bus? Because...she may not be able to get on the bus.
You are doing all that you can. Unless there's a marked deformity I am not sure EMS is the right answer here. That could change if the swelling gets worse, of course. That family has nobody (no friend, no neighbor, nobody at school) to come get the student?
If the student can't go to class (might be for the best since we need to control movement) can she be kept quietly in the library or some other location to free up your space? Do you have a resource officer who might be able to transport?
I'm sorry. It looks like it's going to be a long day for you.

How did this turn out?
Parents eventually showed up and carried her out, of course student did not show up to school today, shes was a trooper! but it does get frustrating when you have those students with high temperatures or need to be picked up immediately and no one is available

One time I was out and had an awesome sub covering for me. Sub ended up calling 911 on a student with severe abdominal pain. Talks with parents, gets staff person to go with student to hospital, parents nearby (within a couple of miles) and will meet student at hospital.
Parents did not show up at hospital until 6 hours later.

Earlier this year I had a student who had fever and vomiting at drop off. The student had gone home the day before with vomiting. The Mother not only did not pick him up for the entire day she called and told me in no uncertain terms that she had a very important high profile job and could not just drop everything to come and pick up her child.

Oh this makes my blood boil. I get that it can be impossible for a parent to miss work but There is NO excuse for it taking that long for someone to be there.

I also work as a psych nurse prn and when we discharge a adolescent and parent doesn't want to come get them we threaten and do call 911 and report it has a child abandonment. As a school nurse I never had to do that yet....

This sounds like a broken arm I had earlier this year. I was on another campus 1 hour away so I was talking on the phone with my admin assistant, helping her assess the situation. Obvious deformity in the arm. Kid is in pain. Parents are out of the country (naturally) so its the sitter we're trying to deal with. It takes her over 4 hours to come get this student. After they leave the school she drags the kiddo to lunch because "she never got to eat because she had to come to the school" and then they go back to the student's house for several more hours. THEN the sitter is told by the parents to take the student to the chiropractor for her arm. THE CHIROPRACTOR. The student said "yeah, he was really mad when we got there...." I'm sure he was!
I just can't understand the nonchalance soooooo many parents have with their kids. I just don't get it.

While I don't get it...I'm not surprised any more, sadly. And I've only been at this 2-1/2 years!

I have the total opposite this year - lots of helicopter parents that want what seems like hourly reports of their kids.
Oh they want constant updates but still can't seem to actually show up at school when called.
