Fall 2019 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry Into Nursing Hopeful

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program. I was wondering if those of you who are current or former students of the program could share your credentials, GRE Scores, GPA, and experience of being an MSN Entry Into Nursing student. I know that I am asking for a lot. I'm a bit worried that my GPA will not be high enough. Cum GPA is a 3.3 but my prereq GPA is 3.7

Same here! College GPA was 3.37 and pre-reqs were around 3.8. Any advice would be great

I applied for Spring 2019 admission, so I am going to follow this thread!

My undergrad GPA is not fantastic (I was not very committed to school when I started college back in my early 20's). But my last 60 credits are close to a 3.8, and pre-reqs are pretty good- all A's and one B. I am hoping that my work experience and (hopefully) strong essay will help! I also wrote an addendum to explain my GPA.

They say they take a holistic approach when reviewing the applications. And best of luck! I keep freaking out whenever I hear the e-mail sound on my computer because I keep thinking it's them getting back to me.

Yes! I attended several of the online info sessions, and when they mentioned this it gave me so much hope! I am a completely different person than I was 15+ years ago, so I am hopeful that I was able to convey that in my application.

I am doing the same thing! Although I know it is far too soon for a decision :). Best of luck to you as well! Did you apply for Spring?

I did! I'm not the best student but I'm hoping my experiences and personal essays will show that I'm more than ready to do this. Last year people were hearing back from them in mid September. I hate waiting! Have you applied other places?

I emailed admissions to ask about when we might hear- they told me late August to early September- so I am hopeful that it will be sooner than later :).

For now, this is the only program I've applied to. It is my dream program, so if I don't get in I will consider the other options on my list. We have 3 kids and live in the Seattle area, so it will be a huge move if I get in! But like you, I am more than ready!

Have you applied anywhere else?

I hope it's sooner too. And it's also my dream school, but I applied to Davis and Rush and a couple other absns in case. I can't find their acceptance rates anywhere so I have no idea what my chances are.

Hey Future Nurses, My name is Adam and I am a current student in Cohort 6 (Spring 18 matriculation, Summer 19 Graduation) at JHU. If anybody has questions about the school/process/Baltimore or what not just ask.

As for your applications. JHU expects decent grades but they look at the whole candidate. My background was actually in theater and music before going into healthcare. They look for driven people with interesting backgrounds, people who will bring those experiences into the school. Make sure your prereq/science grades are solid. My undergrad was a 2.49, my prereqs were a 4.0. MAKE SURE YOUR ESSAY IS SOLID, UNIQUE, AND REALLY DEMONSTRATES WHO YOU ARE AND WHY YOU ARE WANTING TO BE A NURSE.

And I got my acceptance letter on September 1st (2017).

Thanks Adam! What's the program like in regards to difficulty and stress levels? Also what made you decide to go into nursing and how did you convey that in your essays?
