Fake Nurse?

Nurses Professionalism

I hope someone can give me some insight because I dont know what else to do...

I'll try to make a long story as short as possible but here goes....I suspect my cousin is lying to us that he has RN license. He does not show up on the TX BON, I even called and they have no record of him, he logged into his NCLEX exam profile and there was nothing there that showed he had passed, infact there was no record of a test, he had not worked after "passing" the NCLEX for about 2 years and after the family put pressure on him and started to ask questions he all of a sudden got a RN internship/residency at a big hospital here in Dallas, his paycheck says RN intern, he makes about $19/hr. His excuse for why he doesn't show up on the BON is some story about a mix up with his name or social security.

Anyway, I even saw his "pass" letter from NCSBN and it had a score with median and percentages etc, rather than just a pass, also it was a paper letter I was under the impression its all online now (pass/fail results).

Did I also mention he did not provide his degree for us to see and keeps saying he misplaced it, we called the school and they also have no record of him... anyway its evident to me he is a fake but how can I prove this to the rest of the family?? Its driving me crazy! He has a badge and everything from his employer... can someone be a nurse intern without passing nclex??

He may be embarrassed that he did not pass his NCLEX exam, which can be a hard thing to take after so much school and not achieving the long awaited prize, the license. Be supportive and loving toward your cousin. Sounds like understanding is needed not being outed about not passing. Some people need or may take several attempts. Let's not judge, show love!!!!!!

Honestly, I think you need a better hobby. Truth will out.

I actually have a similar issue. I looked up a relative on my state's BON, and she didn't come up either. if your license is taken away, would they still come up on the BON?

Specializes in HH, Peds, Rehab, Clinical.

In my state it would, but I don't know about others

I see you have reasons to want to know this...maybe sit down, invite him to coffee, and try to get the truth out of him. I believe all RN licenses are public information, and you can look up any RN to see their license. At least, in CA.

In my state of Florida, it will still show up online whether it's current, expired, taken away, etc.

Just a comment on the "nurse intern" position...While I was in nursing school and working as a CNA at a local big corp. hospital, I was actually classified as a "Nurse Extern" and essentially would have just rolled up into a nursing job after graduation/passing NCLEX...That may be why he has that title...Doesn't necessarily mean he's working as an actual nurse.

Use this system. It pulls up other states too.

Glad I'm not in your family. This is also why I city bussed, worked, and Ramen noodled my way through LPN school. People think they own you because they helped you. Ugh.

I appreciate all those who responded with constructive comments and info.

I'm glad you're not in my family too. Your self righteous comment was not warranted. I do not feel like I own my cousin but you sure can bet I own the $ I diverted from my own responsibilities to help out a fam member but to have said person turn around and lie is a betrayal!. Perhaps you and the rest of those who keep telling me to find a better hobby can take their own advice, if you don't care for the question and feel above it, perhaps your precious time can be spent responding to something else.

PS:for those interested, I found him on the CNA registry last night, I didn't know one even existed. He was not in the Nursys site. So he lied that it was nursing school and I can safely bet the money given to him was not used for what would have been a more expensive RN program. Thanks and bye allnurses, this is a great site with lots of good info.

so if he's a CNA how did he get a intern RN position, so weird lol.

Sounds like a fake to me! RN & LPN new grads who have passed the NCLEX both make well over $19/hour. Sounds like he is still waiting for boards approval. A graduate RN or LPN can work as a "intern nurse" or "graduate nurse" while waiting to take NCLEX but their scope is severely limited.
