Fake Nurse?

Published

I hope someone can give me some insight because I dont know what else to do...

I'll try to make a long story as short as possible but here goes....I suspect my cousin is lying to us that he has RN license. He does not show up on the TX BON, I even called and they have no record of him, he logged into his NCLEX exam profile and there was nothing there that showed he had passed, infact there was no record of a test, he had not worked after "passing" the NCLEX for about 2 years and after the family put pressure on him and started to ask questions he all of a sudden got a RN internship/residency at a big hospital here in Dallas, his paycheck says RN intern, he makes about $19/hr. His excuse for why he doesn't show up on the BON is some story about a mix up with his name or social security.

Anyway, I even saw his "pass" letter from NCSBN and it had a score with median and percentages etc, rather than just a pass, also it was a paper letter I was under the impression its all online now (pass/fail results).

Did I also mention he did not provide his degree for us to see and keeps saying he misplaced it, we called the school and they also have no record of him... anyway its evident to me he is a fake but how can I prove this to the rest of the family?? Its driving me crazy! He has a badge and everything from his employer... can someone be a nurse intern without passing nclex??

It definitely sounds like he is a fake, if what you are saying is indeed the truth, but why do you feel like you should be proving it to everyone? It sounds like he's a GN who maybe failed the boards once or twice.

If he's not licensed or employed as an RN, he won't be able to hide those facts indefinitely. The truth will out on its own. It's just a matter of time.

I'm not sure why it's your job to prove a point to your family? Surely you have more important things going on in your life?

if he's pulled the wool over the eyes of his Dallas job, it will catch up with him sooner rather than later

Thanks for responding. I guess the GN who failed sounds like it may be possible. The reason I need to prove it is bc myself and two other fam members gave him $ to finish school supported him while he was in it and so he gave excuse after excuse why he was not working after graduating. That's why we feel like something is fishy. Anyway like I said it's a loong story, again thanks for your response.

Thanks but I have valid reasons that are too long to post.

I know of someone who got away with it for many years. When she was finally "found out," she was the Chief Nursing Officer at a large community hospital.

Just sayin' ...

Chief Nursing Officer!!! That's scary.....:nailbiting:

If person is not a licensed nurse in Texas then the Texas BON can't touch him.

My former supervisor has never been licensed in Texas, yet she's been working here as an RN for a number of years under her Arizona nursing licensure with compact multistate privileges.

Texas has a stunning web site for looking up things like this....they also have a special area for Nurse Impostors. Google "Texas State board of Medical Examiners, Disciplined, Ive used it for years.

So this person is quite the con artist. Is he paying you back? If so case closed.

Your cousin does not have to prove anything to you. If the "big hospital here in Dallas" hired him ... it's a done deal. Background checks and credit checks cover it all.
