Should a nurse befriend a former patient when that patient sends a friend request. I have seen both positive and negative outcomes when this happens, what is your opinion?
If they become a patient in your unit, can't you just go to the nurse manager and tell her that patient is your Facebook friend and that you would rather not care for that patient, and ask if someone else can?
If that pt. codes, are you going to excuse yourself from any part of the resuscitation efforts because that person is a FB friend?
What's a p4p girl?

"She is a facebook friend. We met 4 nights ago at the motel across the road. I ethically cannot care for her after her PEPSI overdose."
That link led me to a "This Page Does Not Load" message.

Well where I work the decision is easy. It is against company policy to friend patients or their family members. I think it's solid. Also when I do post about work, it is always positive and uplifting, building up coworkers etc. No negative stuff and never things about patients. You never know who is lurking and you can't block people from seeing your posts if they are stalking you (patients, your boss, management). They can see what you write through friending friends etc. Screen shots can be taken and used against you.
Social media is a wonderful thing but you have to be careful.
