You kind of just survive. One of my instructors put it this way: Nursing school is a marathon, not a sprint.

I am 51, retiring from a 24-year career at the same company, and starting an RN program in January! Excited and scared only scratch the surface of the emotions I'm feeling as retirement and school draws near. Best wishes to all of you and hopefully we'll see each other here for support and advice as we begin!!
ahimsa_L 24 Posts Dec 8, 2014 I'm glad to know I'm not the only one freaking out! I'm 29; I was the oldest student in most of my pre-req classes, but I'm glad that I am doing this at my age rather than when I was 18 because I had horrible study habits and no motivation when I was younger. I've been scouring this website for information on how to prepare, but I think the one advice I've read that I really need to follow is: relax and enjoy ourselves...because it's going to be crazy once spring semester rolls around.
tvleon13 55 Posts Dec 10, 2014 I am also 30 years old and starting nursing school in Spring...I am beyond excited and somewhat nervous. I'm a stay at home mom so this will be a complete life change for me. I have been working on pre req for a long while now... Stopped a few times to have babies etc. But got my A.A and now going to get my ASN . I was born to be a nurse and I'm so excited to be able to fulfill my dream! Congrats everyone and good luck!!!
namira_spots 2 Posts Dec 10, 2014 I'm starting this coming semester also. I'm 26 and I've been a respiratory therapist for about 4.5 years. I'm hoping having that much hospital and patient care experience helps! And thank you for the tips Sunny! Is anyone else doing the NAU Tucson campus program?
Summers3 201 Posts Dec 24, 2014 My goodness, I'm starting soon as well and I was worried.......... now as it gets closer i'm just scared out of my mind sometimes. How do you guys keep the fear away? And all the crazy "what-ifs" from getting to you? I know I should be excited like everyone here but for some reason i'm just getting fearful.....
quixotic.dy 48 Posts Dec 26, 2014 I'm starting the end of January also. I'm 38. I'm a second degree seeking student not that it matters cause I just spent the last 6 semesters taking taking my pre-reqs or retaking classes from my first degree thanks to the über competitiveness of the program I'm going into. I just used my only Christmas gift to buy the last book I needed and the only other thing I need to do now is pay my tuition, buy a stethoscope, and read the 32 chapters that need to be read by the first week. Woohoo.
