  1. I have enjoyed my pediatric case mgmt job. I loved developing relationships with my patients, families, and even their dogs, LOL. I have enjoyed working with the dedicated nurses caring for these kids, answering their questions, giving suggestions, and being there just to listen when it's been a bad day. It's been awesome to see my patients learn to walk, talk, overcome obstacles, learn to eat, or even "graduate" from our care by having trachs and g-tubes removed. However, being with a home health company meant I have had to drive a LOT to complete my visits; some weeks a few hundred miles There is a lot of paperwork involved and deadlines for getting things into insurance for reauthorizing hours. We take calls from the nurses working with our kids, put new orders in for meds and changes in care plans, talk to parents, take complaints, counsel nurses, do yearly evaluations on them, check off skills on new hires, go over new hire quizzes they don't do well on, deliver gloves and lab supplies to homes. It's a very busy schedule, and can be a very stressful job, but it's been really rewarding. I just got tired of all the driving, and the stress. I am going to stay on with them PRN in the field. I hope this answered your question!
  2. Thank you all so much for your replies. I don't know how I feel the interview went. I did get the glucose question and a question about seizures, priorities, and I hope my case management and prior administrative skills will help me. I'm supposed to hear something next week. I'm not sure how many were being interviewed this week.
  3. I am an RN w/a BSN with 2 yrs ICU experience and 4 yrs of pediatric case management who is interviewing for a school nurse position. I've been looking online at what interview questions I might be asked, and it was overwhelming. Can anyone please give me an idea of what I might be asked and what I should familiarize myself with for my interview? Thank you!
  4. Hello Can you recommend a plus-size scrub jacket? I'm looking at Cherokee and Dickies and can't decide. Thanks!!!
  5. Hello Everyone - I am graduating (God willing) in December and am filling out my application to take an exam on BON's website. In the Criminal History portion, at the bottom it says, "(You may only exclude Class C misdemeanor traffic violations or offenses previously disclosed to the Texas Board of Nursing on an initial or renewal application). Well, I've never completed an application before and I got a speeding ticket in March '16. Does this mean I have to answer yes to "been convicted of a misdemeanor?" and be ineligible to fill out my application online? I am going to call BON tomorrow, but wanted to see if any of you had the answer to this. This is confusing and I don't want to be deceptive on my application. Thanks!!
  6. Our nursing school doesn't round up, even if you have 89.9999999.
  7. Nurse: "We're gonna need another box of wipes, here."
  8. "Touch my rear one more time and I'll show you where else this goes."
  9. Top 5 Things - Nursing Student 1. Although all answers are correct, one is the most correct. 2. You're never too old to pursue your dreams. 3. Gloves help with a lot of gross. 4. Nurses are hardworking and selfless caregivers 5. Never give up
  10. Hi - first of all I want to say to you, GO FOR IT!! It sounds like you're off to a great start. I am 52 and started nursing school at 50. With God's grace, I will graduate in December 16 with my ADN-RN degree! There is no dosage calculations on the entrance HESI when applying for nursing school. It's basic math: decimals, fractions, etc. Once you start school and do your exit HESI tests after certain courses, then the dosage calculation will be there. There are some good books for studying HESI and there are some good websites where you can take some free practice exams. Good luck to you!!
  11. "Hallelujah, that patient's getting discharged!! Can I get an "AMEN!!"
  12. an entire family with a list of what kind of sodas they want from the nourishment refrigerator.
  13. Just a note: I have always had to include a time frame for my goals.... by discharge, by end of shift, or by a specific date/time. They are just hard, lol. Still trying to get used to them myself. Good luck!
  14. Hi Lynn - I'm not sure what's in the bundle. I hope we can get our books this week. I went to San Jac's SOS and clicked on buy textbooks and it took me to the bookstore and showed me a list of the books. I'm assuming that's what is in the bundle, plus the software for Prep U and something else we'll be using online.
  15. I am freaking out too! I try not to think about it and focus on my new beginning. I'm nervous about doing well, and being able to keep up academically. Most of all, I am thankful for the opportunity and plan on doing my best. I think fear and doubt will definitely get in the way, so we need to throw them out! We need to give ourselves credit for getting into the program. It's a big accomplishment! We can do it!
