Excelsior RN-to-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Would like to hear from anyone currently doing or already completed the Excelsior RN-to-BSN program....how did you like it? how long did it take? etc. Thanks!!

Hi motenn, I am also curious about EC RN to BSN program. I would like to know about the nursing courses, prereqs and time that it takes to complete the program. any information would be helpful.

More importantly, is this acceptable for Florida credits as RN Bachelors degree?

The site just signs up anyone as a student and just goes round and round no matter what button you click for information.

Financial help may be a problem, but then again that's a problem for any degree if you already have degrees. But it would be a bummer to work and find out you have an invalid degree for your state.:coollook:

I'm in it. I had a ton of credits going in, but I've been trudging along since mid-2006. I took all of the exams first, then saved the WebCT courses for last. If I had it to do over again, I'd break those up. The courses obviously aren't as flexible time-wise, as you have to make posts to WebCT and respond to discussion items.

Hello:

2005 ADN EC grad here. Started the BSN, didn't get very far. Never took any exams. Check out a awesome group that I belong to. It is on yahoo groups. [email protected] . Things have been kind of quiet lately, but you could read old posts. You could also ask any questions that you may have, and someone will help you.

Some are almost done with their degree. One is doing MSN through EC. Good luck.. I hope that this helps you.... Take care....

Specializes in Tele, Home Health, MICU, CTICU, LTC.

I recently completed the EC RN to BSN program. I liked the program and felt I got a great education. I can only complain about one class that I took and it was not a nursing class. The nursing instructors were great. My only complaint....waiting two and a half months to graduate after finishing all classes. I finished my classes at the end of April and just found out my degree will not be conferred until July 18th.

Congratulations, medicrnohio!

Wow, congrats to the BSN grads!! :yeah:

I'm a 'bricks & mortar' ADN program RN and went on to complete the BS in Liberal Arts from Excelsior in 2004. I looked into the BSN at that time but decided not to do it because my employer wouldn't reimburse the cost of exams (they only pay for 'traditional' courses) and I wanted to focus more on health care administration. But now I'm looking into the Excelsior RN-BSN program again. It looks like things have changed a bit since 4 years ago. There seem to be more online courses and not as many tests and exams. I noticed that the research course is now offered online or as an exam. Does anyone have any insight on that? Do you think it would be better to take the course or the exam? The funny thing is that my employer will pay the $900 for online tuition but not the $285 for the exam! So maybe I just answered my own question. :doh:Anyone take stats through EC--online or exam??

What kind of projects are involved with the online BSN courses? Do you need to work in a clinical area to be able to secure mentors/preceptors? Or are there really any clinical experiences involved? What is the capstone course about? I don't work in a clinical area anymore so just wondering if that would be a hindrance.

I know...a ton of questions! Any help appreciated! Thank you!

Congrats on graduating, medicrnohio!

My one caveat about the Excelsior BSN - which I plan to pursue - is that it is not suitable for someone who wishes to continue on to become and advanced practioner. Very light on science.
