EC grads,

Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:

I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.

Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.

Specializes in Critical Care.

Former RRT (Respiratory Therapist) for 5 years. Graduated Excelsior in 2010. Graduated with BSN from American Sentinel University. Have been working in Oncology for past 3 years. Will be applying for ICU internship later this year.

Way to go! I am considering Excelsior College for my RN. I am currently an LPN. How long did it take you to earn your ADN?

Was lpn for 5 years finished excelsior adn in Jan 2010 became RN. Prior to finishing the Excelsior program I worked as a licensed practical nurse in nursing homes.when I became a registered nurse I got a job in ICU at a small community hospital.after working there for a year I got a job at a larger hospital the Cleveland Clinic I am on an orthopedic telemetry unit.I recently finished my bachelors degreefrom Kaplan University and I will be starting my acute care nurse practitioner program in September at Walden University I have never had any issues being a graduate of Excelsior College....actually most nurses and management that I encounter believe that Excelsior nurses are very particular and goal oriented to finish a self-study program they possess a desire and passion to finish a self study programI just wanted to add that last year i was a finalist for nurse of the year at my hospital... not bad for an Excelsior grad

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.
I was an LPN for 24 years prior to enrollment with EC in August 2009. Graduated and passed NCLEX in April/June 2010 respectively. I kept my same job as a PRN float nurse for a year then relocated, where I did a year in a cardiac step-down unit at one hospital while maintaining a float position at a teaching hospital where I am now. Presently, I'm in the process of endorsing to Florida and am on course to RN-BSN completion with EC by April of next year...if all goes as planned. Once that is completed, nothing but tropical working vacations for me!
Update: BSN completed August 17, 2014!!!!!!:D
Specializes in Certified Med/Surg tele, and other stuff.

Approx four years of LPN then graduated in 1989 with my RN. I have worked in a variety of areas in numerous hospitals. I now work as a charge nurse on a med/surg Tele floor and recently completed by BSN.

I have I two employee of the quarter and one employee of the year.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

My semi-irregular update:

ADN, 2008

BSN, 2010

Army, 2011

Deployment, 2013-2014

Leaving active duty July 2015

All but a capstone to finish my MSN in Informatics, but I am back-burner-ing that degree in favor of an MSN-FNP through Chamberlain. Should finish by August 2016. May try to complete the other MSN after that, but we'll see!

Started as 50% BSN Student

2012 ADN Excelsior

2014 Nurse II Inpatient Adult Psych

2015 (Expected) MS Clinical Systems Management Excelsior

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

Ok. I couldn't help it. I applied and was accepted into 2 Masters degree programs: MSN and MSHS (strongly considering this one as it will give me exactly what I need to secure a position in Public/Community Health (interview coming up very soon but I have no experience in the area), as well as raise a few eyebrows in the Case Management world (or so I'm told). Both of these are with Excelsior, so being a two-time graduate of the college with the appropriate GPA made the process easy...they have all my transcripts already. But, making the decision to enroll since I just finished their BSN program is the hold-up. I'm rather fatigued at the moment. Information overload?

Graduated EC RN for sometime. Now stuck not being able to work in my state of residency since they require some hours of experience to endorse rn license. Have active RN license in another state.

A classmate during my ASN program had the same situation...which we all were aware of from the beginning (we had to sign a waiver acknowledging this before EC would allow us to enroll). He was licensed in Tennessee and started working there until he secured a VA position here in the Atlanta are. Now, in 8 weeks, he will graduate with his NP in emergency nursing. I'm very proud of him! He graduated from EC just a few months after I did, and he kept going.....with the imposed stipulations and all! This young man is married with 2 daughters, and should just be hitting 30 or 31 years of age! he plans to remain at the VA even though he has since endorsed into this state. By the way, our sate does accept EC (with additional preceptorship hours), but since he had a family relying on him and his parents were from Tennessee, the whole thing worked in his favor. Very smartly done!

Specializes in NICU, Acute Rehab, Med/Surg, Quality.

I graduated in 1996 when Excelsior was USNY Regents College. I just completed my BSN at Grand Canyon University and have now enrolled at Excelsior for my MSN Education path. Prior to 1996, I was a LPN for 10 years. I have experience in NICU, Med/Surg, Repiratory Rehab, and Physical Rehab. I was M/S Charge Nurse;then M/S Unit Supervisor;followed by M/S Unit Manager; Manager of Nursing Performance; and finally my current position as Clinical Quality Analyst.

I just graduated this August. I almost used all of my 7 years to get the program finished. When I started I wanted to do Med-Surg in a hospital setting and couldn't as a lpn. After working 10 years in long-term care I decided to take a house supervisor position in a LTC facility, I will be supervising 6 units, I think it is a good fit for me.
