100% on my exam and it wasn't exciting... :(

Nursing Students General Students

Hi everyone,

I recently got a 100% on my Med/Surg 2 exam. I'm normally a pretty good student. I get mostly A's but I have gotten a couple Bs. However, I really excel in clinical and I've gotten nothing but praise from my instructors. So, I actually feel pretty good about becoming a nurse. I feel like I put in a lot of effort and I honestly deserve the grades and praise I get.

However, recently with this 100% I feel sad and offended because my professor indirectly accused me of cheating... She didn't directly say it, but it was pretty obvious. She was asking me how I study and if I normally get these types of grades and said, "No one has EVER gotten a 100%, so we just wanted to talk to you..." and pretty much had a look on her face that said, "CHEATER!" It really really bothers me because I would NEVER EVER do something like that. I work WAY too hard and am paying WAY to much for school, along with the fact that I HONESTLY want to be an amazing nurse... anyway, you understand now, I would never do anything to hurt my chances of getting my BSN. Even though I know I would never cheat and I could have many of my past professors and classmates back me up, I don't want it to come to that. How can a professor automatically assume a student was cheating just because they did well on a test?? I guess it really hurts because I know myself and how I am with school... I should have been beyond thrilled and celebrated, etc, but all I can think about is that my professor is thinking totally different of me and that's really bothering me. :(

I study from many different materials, I never ever just read the book. I usually don't even read all the required material because I found out that that just doesn't work for me. I use like 6 different study materials and I feel like I'm finally figuring out how to "study smart."

Anyway, does anyone have any imput? I know some of you will think I'm being ridiculous, but this is just how I am.

Thanks everyone

Congrats on your 100%! That is an awesome thing in nursing school and you should be proud of yourself!

I would feel the same way if I was in your shoes right now however if you know that you did not cheat, and you ran this down for your professors, it is what it is. I'm sorry they had to question you about it though, that sucks.

If it's still really bothering you, you could pull the instructor aside and just tell them you are bothered by it. That would help clear the air a little. If I was in this same situation though, I think I would just let it go. Good luck to you in the rest of your studies!!!

As a former professor myself (not nursing, different field), my advice is not to get worked up about the whole thing. It's up to the instructor to prove that you cheated, and obviously, she can't do that. The fact that you received a perfect grade is not proof of cheating. My guess, and its something that an earlier post alluded to, is that in covering all of your bases, you uncovered your instructor's source of questions for the exam. She's unnerved by that.

I just got a 100% last week on a test in OB and no one can believe it either. Ended up with a 98% for OB and am feeling really good about it. I also use a variety of NCLEX study questions and they REALLY help.

Just more evidence on why one SHOULD NOT become a nurse. A clinical instructor (or class instructor) that is petty, backstabbing, placing accusations on others is just a mirror of what's going on out there in the "real world." I still don't understand why everyone is in line trying to become a nurse.

I have seen these sorts of posts from you often. Are you an RN? A student nurse?

That's not true. I've had many AMAZING instructors and my current clinical instructor would absolutely stick her neck out for us.. She's awesome. There's always good instructors, bad instructors, petty instructors... it doesn't matter WHAT you're studying... It works the same with nurses on the floor.. some of them LOVE being nurses and they're kind, some of them don't want anything to do with nursing students because they don't like teaching, and some are just unhappy being a nurse. However, just because there's unhappy nurses doesn't mean that I have to be one. I'm VERY excited about becoming a nurse and I know that I'm going to be good at it. And just like unhappy nurses... isn't there unhappy lawyers, police officers, janitors, teachers, business people, etc????

I had very few hundreds in nursing school... only when questions were thrown out or there was extra credit. I have never gotten every single question right. But if you did, and you know you didn't cheat, congratulations on your accomplishment. It's not an easy feat and you can be rightfully proud.

As a proud nerd who graduated with a 3.9 in my previous degree and a 4.0 in my prereqs I say GOOD FOR YOU! I study my a$$ off when I am in school and have earned every A, 100%, and 110% :) I would feel insulted as well, having been asked how I managed to accomplish a 100% and the implication that I cheated. But my advice to you is move on and let it go - and be proud of that grade!!

I am starting NS in June and if someone ever accuses me of cheating (I loathe cheaters) when I ace a test (yes, I will go ahead and be optimistic), I will tell them to call my husband and ask him how he thinks I accomplished such a feat. I am sure he'll be pleased to have one of my instructors to rant to about the sheer amount of time I spend reading and reviewing for school :)

Congrats on your 100! Don't let anyone make you feel bad because you made a perfect score! And do NOT attempt to do bad on the next exam. (not saying you plan on doing it) I've gotten a perfect score on a nursing exam before and was looked down upon. However the people that were actually cheating never got questioned after numerous complaints. Just keep up the good work!

Thanks! :) I got a 94% today, so hopefully that'll show them that I'm normally a really good student!! LOL

I have let it go! They'll just have to deal with it. I know I work my butt off and I really struggled in Med/Surg 1 last term and it was really hard for me to figure out how to study and work things out... so finally getting A's again, not to mention really HIGH A's is a BIG accomplishment for me and to think that I'm only doing it in a more advanced Med/Surg is really great for me! I'm proud to be a good student and like you said, I'm sure our love ones would love to explain to our instructors really how much time we put into school. :)

Good luck to you!! I'm sure you'll do great!!!!

Thanks! I got a 94% today, so no attempting to do bad for me! I was actually more afraid to do bad than ever before because I didn't want them to be like, "umm... now we're really wondering how you pulled off a 100% on the last exam.." :uhoh3::uhoh3:
