New to NICU
I will look into STABLE :) I know I'm taking the class soon along with NRP. I believe I'm taking NRP first. Good to know, I will try to focus on home when I'm home. I have a 4 month old, so I love spending time with her when I'm here. :)

New to NICU
Thank you SO much for your perspective! :) I do love how specialized it is and I'm so glad that I'm starting off in the NICU as a new grad. One day I hope to be that experience nurse that knows absolutely everything about neonates that can be a preceptor and give someone like me this chance. :)

New to NICU
Thank you!!! :) I did my preceptorship in L&D, unfortunately we weren't allowed to do it in NICU. I think what helped me the most was showing them how excited I was and passionate I am. I think they know I'm not going anywhere so they were willing to train me and put the money into me as a new grad. I also had really great references from pediatrics and OB, so that probably helped :)

Anybody? Has anyone started as a new grad recently?? How's it going? I had my first week of hospital/nursing orientation Mon-Fri, it went really well. :) I have orientation this Tues-Thurs then I'll be on the floor on Friday!!!!! :) I'm so excited.

Anyone? I know everyone here probably has some kind of advice, funny/happy moments that make you love NICU, moments to prepare for, etc?

Salary
There's no pay difference between floors in the hospital I'm starting at either. It's pretty universal in the area I'm in.

New to NICU
Hi! :) I'm so excited for my start day May 20th in the NICU. It's my dream job and I got extremely lucky to get it as a new grad in a level III NICU at a teaching hospital, I cannot wait to start. Any advice, pointers, brain sheets, wisdom, etc? I know there's tons of threads, but some are out-dated and I'd love to here from new grads in the NICU or current NICU RNs. I already purchased Merenstein&Gardners Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care and I've started reading. :)

I feel like quitting...
Don't give up!!! You've come so far! Your children might not understand now, but they will understand in the future!! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe It WILL be worth it in the end and EVERYONE will be very thankful for it. I'm sure it's hard, I can't imagine having kids going to nursing school, but I do know what it's like to have a Mom that you look up to and inspire to be like :) Your kids will too!! Spend the summer hanging out with the family!! Enjoy your time off!! My NS is YEAR ROUND! No break for me

Nursing School Tests
Don't give up!! :) I find for me that using a lot of different study materials is the way to go. I also find that trying to read all the "required" chapters NEVER works... it ends up taking SO much time and I usually don't retain that much. I find that practicing questions help a lot because you learn to catch "key words" and prioritizing and tricks along the way. Wish you luck!! :)

100% on my exam and it wasn't exciting... :(
Thanks! I got a 94% today, so no attempting to do bad for me! I was actually more afraid to do bad than ever before because I didn't want them to be like, "umm... now we're really wondering how you pulled off a 100% on the last exam.." :uhoh3:

100% on my exam and it wasn't exciting... :(
I have let it go! They'll just have to deal with it. I know I work my butt off and I really struggled in Med/Surg 1 last term and it was really hard for me to figure out how to study and work things out... so finally getting A's again, not to mention really HIGH A's is a BIG accomplishment for me and to think that I'm only doing it in a more advanced Med/Surg is really great for me! I'm proud to be a good student and like you said, I'm sure our love ones would love to explain to our instructors really how much time we put into school. :) Good luck to you!! I'm sure you'll do great!!!!
