  1. Two of my patients died within 4 hours of each other. The second one was of the unit for a procedure, where they died. This is was a hit to my soul. I decided I needed to take a mental health day. Im just wondering if anyone thinks that was a horrible idea? I know the unit is short staffed, but they can call agency. i just don't think I can face another day on the unit. does anyone have similar experience? What are people's opinions on this? My fiancé is sweet but has no idea about the medical world. My mom said tough it out and go to work.
  2. 1. ND 2. 6 mo 3. LTAC 4. 22.43 5. nights 2.00 weekends 4.00 - 200 to pick up extra shift 6. non-union
  3. I make 22-23 an hour. If you pick up an extra shift they will pay 200 extra dollars plus time and a half. That's more then they pay in my home state. However, everything is inflated here because of the oil fields. I'm just keeping my head down, and getting experience until I can move.
  4. I moved to Bismarck, ND after graduation. You can get hired in any area: ICU, Med/Surg, NICU. All the cities are hiring too: Williston, Minot (very scary up there thought), Dickinson, Fargo, Bismarck. A lot of people from other states have figured this out, and are moving up here.

    Well thanks all!

Boratz, Yes, that is the same book we are going off of. It says solution compatibility Dex5 incompatable with Dex/AA. I think she is thinking the Dex/AA is a higher concentration of Dextrose. Or, am I the one reading it wrong?
  7. So, I've been looking at drug books (neonatal ones) that say these solutions can be run together. However, my precetor says they can't. Does anybody have information on this?

Ok, let me see if I'm undertanding this. So, BIPAP/CPAP are considered settings on a ventilator. but someone is not considered on a vent unless they are intubated? By the way, thanks for taking the time to explain this!

Ok. Thanks for the info 8)
  11. What annoys me is, they are no where to be found when something needs to be done. If you want to do something/watch a procedure you make sure you're there to do so. It is not my responsibility to hunt you down when something "cool" is going to happen. I have other patients to take care of, and when It's time for me to go into the room of the patient you were assigned, I'm not going to hunt you down.

Hello all, I'm just wondering if Bipap/Cpap are considered vents?

Hi Everyone, I've just recently accepted a position in NICU. I am a new graduate, and the pay i'm getting isn't much different from the Med/Surg unit I'm leaving. I'm just wondering what some of you started out making in the NICU? The pay doesn't change my decision or bother me. I'm extremly happy, grateful, and excited to have gotten this position. Just curious
  14. I don't know if it's been said so I'm going to say it. I'm an amazing employee, and I get along with pretty much everybody. However, I'm horrible at interviews. Those interview questions are ridiculous! As an employee I go into work deal with a problem(very well) when it arrives, and forget about it. I don't keep it in my memory bank for your interview questions. Maybe you should realize you missed out on a great employee just because she/he couldn't answer one of your "situation when" questions. I'd be way more concerned about people who can remember/do such things as "gets slightly emotional thinking about a touching story or proud about how they handled conflict with a coworker and actually became friends"
  15. Oh my goodness!! I had a phone interview today she asked my weakness, I told her I interupt people a lot (it's true). HAHA. At the end of the interview I told her I sucked at interviews, but I'm a wonderful employee. I'll let you all know if I got the job.
