Evolution and Nursing

Updated:   Published

I just want to see how people feel about evolution on the nursing community. This is no way bashing thread. I just want to see if any people choose not to believe in evolution and be in nursing

Believe in both....

I'm not a believer, I'm agnostic. But I think this is good advice.

For a religious person or group to say "That's not how God did it." strikes me as presumptuous, maybe even blasphemous. Can anyone on earth really claim they know how God does anything? Isn't it unwise to try and place limits and definitions to how God operates?

I totally agree that Christians can believe in evolution and creationism simultaneously.

Thought of this thread over the weekend while visiting my fundie dad who insisted on bringing up this topic. I purposely avoid our religious differences out of respect. Wish he would extend the same courtesy. :banghead::banghead:

You come up with the secret plan for doing just that, and I'm all ears!

Me, too! I'm an atheist in a Christian town and anytime it comes up, I feel like I'm coming out of the closet. Two things polite people don't discuss in mixed company - politics and religion!

(And euthanasia, apparently)

THREE things: the third is S-E-X (said in hushed tones)...LOL....

We probably shouldn't hang out. I totally go there.

It is a LOT like that! How many times in my life have I had to come out of a closet? It's like endless closets, step out of one, and into another.

I work private duty, but 'with' another nurse on one case, where two sibs, both very young, have severe mitochondrial disorders and dysautonomia because of it. Their little hearts will race for no reason, they over heat, their SPO2 plunges when they turn over in bed, and they need constant tube feeds because their gut shuts down over nothing. Anyway, we speak briefly at the beginning and ends of the shift, she's a good gal, and one day she was going on about something and stopped long enough to say, looking into my eyes meaningfully -- "I do believe in God, don't get me wrong . . ." and I just gaped at her (she'd went on with her monologue) thinking "why did she feel she needed to make sure I knew that? I'm not wearing a cross or carrying a Bible . . . I must have dropped at least ONE F bomb by now . . ."

The town I live in isn't huge, but it has like two different populations -- one of crispy organic granolas who are or did go to Evergreen State College, and then the relatively poor White Protestants of all ages and provincialities. If I wore a T shirt that proclaimed "Atheists Rule; God Drools" I'd get so many dirty looks I'd rather go topless, at least I wouldn't get so many dirty looks that way :D I'd probably win the wrong kind of prize in a topless contest, lets put it that way :D but my naked boobies flapping in the Pacific breeze would bring me less negative attention than being an atheist.

Wow, just..... wow! I am glad I live in the UK where the theists would be seen as wrong to give negative attention to an atheist. I regularly wear t-shirts with the slogans "god is an existentialist", "religion, together we can find the cure" and "atheism, a non prophet organisation". Would not expect any problems while wearing them and would not expect my character to be defined by my atheism.

Recently read "Christian Nation, a Novel" by Frederic C. Rich. Scary stuff and gives an idea what American atheists live with.

I'll think for you.

I believe Jesus is God and died for us.

I know that is faith. Faith is believing in what cannot be proven.

It is useless to try logic regarding faith. Faith is not logical.

I also believe that at the moment of death a person who tried to do the right thing ands treat others as they wish to be treated will see the truth.

So I don't need to be rude or upset people.

I explain more only to people who ask.

The scientific method is the process of experimentation to determine what is fact.

That is why peer review is required so others can try to duplicate research. Something is only proven when an experiment produces the same result every time. Then there can be a "law" such as the "law of gravity".
