4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Nursing Students Ohio University

Published

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

Does anyone understand what they are asking us to do for the week 5 assignment? I emailed the TA and she has not responded. I was wanting to go ahead and get it done as soon as I could.

Quite confusing isn't it! Let us know if your TA writes back. Study guide for final quiz up in my section. This week - only 20 questions!! {sarcasm intended}

Soooo, that means each question is worth more...great. Could be a deal breaker.

I just emailed my TA for clarification. Do you think we need to reference each individual article? Or the AHRQ website as a whole? I don't get it. And how do you write one sentence on each article?

The following is an email I just received. I am sure it went to everybody, but I know there have been inconsistencies with the TA updates and whatnot so I figured it cannot hurt to post it right?!

  • Well, you are almost done
This has been a challenging time
It's been a lot of hard work but, hopefully you have found this experience worthwhile

Week 4 Quiz- We are aware of the concerns about some of the quiz questions. Once the quiz deadline has passed, Professor Andreano will be reviewing all the questions.

Week 5 Quiz- Your quiz will be open Monday. Please remember you can only access the quiz one time.

Week 5 Due Dates- These are like the other weeks. Your original discussion board post is due end of day Friday. Your quiz & 2 discussion board replies are due end of day Sunday.

Week 5 Discussion Board- Read the assignment instructions carefully. There are two parts to this assignment. 1) review the material in your textbook, identify one thing at your workplace that is NOT evidence-based practice. Then identify three things that need to be done so you ARE doing evidence-based practice. 2) Go to the AHRQ website & review completed evidence-based practice reports. Choose one of the topics & read summaries for three of the reports. Identify which reports you read & for each one, write a well-developed sentence that describes what you found.

Who was it that said week 5 looked easy?? I am trying to read those 2 chapters and just can't! DB looks like a nightmare - what fun!!! Almost done - we can do this! :arghh:

Chp 17 takes the cake for THE worst chapter thus far. If you're having insomnia turn to page 386 and set your alarm. You'll be sleepin' like a baby in no time! :arghh: I guess we have to reference each article we retrieve with our ONE sentence summary. Let it end!!!

Just got off work from the psych hospital. I appreciate coming home and having a good laugh after the stuff I deal with there. Your post did the trick...too funny.

I have to say...this textbook is the worst hands down. I think sometimes having a PhD...does not mean you should write a book...or that you are even qualified to do so. I'm just saying. Don't even get me started on nursing theory. Good grief! I think nurses can be their own worst enemies.

I read Chapter 17 ... snoozefest for sure!

Agree about the book. I take my book to work and a few other nurses said that they used it for their Masters Degree course. I seriously was looking online for Nursing Research for Dummies!!! Couldn't find it. So my only option was to read the text. Ha, ha!

When I first starting reading this textbook I wanted to scream, its HORRIBLE. What I really hate about it too is how they don't just come right out and give you a definition of a term they have highlighted in blue, you have to kind of really read it, that drives me INSANE. I usually go to the glossary and find it.

I actually went on Google Books and partially read some other research nursing textbook...I didn't read that much into it but the one I did read was a tad better but not much. Then again I didn't read a whole lot of it. And I actually did look for Nursing Research for Dummies or Nursing Research Made Incredibly Easy and couldn't find it either! :)

On Friday, there was a message posted that stated

- Quiz: end of day Sunday

On Saturday, there was the following message:

Here is a study guide for the M5 quiz - remember you must complete the Quiz before 8am Saturday Morning.
