I just thought about this from another post in the students section because there was a question about a teacher who didn't like CNA's. In my assessment lab, I was the ONLY one who had ZERO medical experience be it CNA, PCA, or working in a doctor's office. It irritated the CRAP out of me that the teacher automatically thought she didn't need to teach anything the first few weeks because they were all CNAs and they already knew how to make beds, and transfer patients. I had to read and ask them all questions to which they would act like I must be seriously retarded, and I'd have to explain over and over again that I was NOT, and had never been, a CNA nor did I have any plans on becoming one or any interest in becoming one.

It's funny now because they thought they had a real edge, now I'm getting the highest grades in the nursing classes where before I was a middle-of-the-road student and some of them have failed or are currently failing. I knew I didn't have to be a CNA to become a nurse.

OMG, I know exactly how you feel. I have a couple in my class. I have been in class with these people for 3 years. 1st of all, everytime a situation comes up they love to announce where they work and at their place of employement how things are done. For instance, my school is apart of a teaching hospital and I work here. When we are on clinicals, they love to let everyone no, at their hospital how's it done. They truly get on my last nerve. You and I are going to invest in some water balloons, and start throwing water balloons at them

this situation is so damn true! in my class, i, too, have a classmate like that! i really do hate people who don't think first before asking questions. there are some of their questions that i think they can answer by themselves if they just think harder. some ask questions even they know the answers already just so they can tell stories..duh!a waste of my time!

why can't they just shut up! i agree!!!:stone:banghead:

as an ex PARAMEDIC(Associate degree with OVER 200 hours more than an ADN RN..)and as a nursing student(returning after 20 yrs) I feel I am able to reply......most Nursing homes I have been to regard us (EMT'Ps) as below CRNA's even thouth I have had MORE TRAINING THAN THEY HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........I am DISGUSTED with the treatmement that ENT/EMTP rcv from maily LVN/LPN(whom are REALLY INFERIOR to us training wise)........this is coming from a LPN STUDENT/ASD(assocaite in Paramedicine)

This isn't relevant to the topic - good that you have 200 hours more training than an ADN - bad that RNs make considerably more.

Do you mean CNA? I doubt you have more training than a CRNA who went to school forever to get their advanced practice.

I find it amazing that a thread can just kinda take on a mind of it's own. Back to the classroom!!!!

I recently started working in a hospital (first time) as an NA, I have never experienced such rude behavior as some of these nurses and NA's dish out. It has made me rethink wanting to become a nurse, but then again nurses can do more than work in a hospital, so I'm going on. But some of these folks are brutal, I don't understand why?

I know how you feel, I worked briefly as an NA at a local hospital and was put off by the extreme rudeness of family more than staff (who were actually really cool) - don't let it stop you though, just take a step back (quit the hospital before you even consider school! :wink2: )

I guess there's always gotta be one in every class, you know they type that can't resist saying..."well I work at such-n-such place and we do it this way...." ON EVERY TOPIC!!! or ask 20 questions where all the answers from the teacher are "yes" because it's some elementary ? that they are just asking to let everyone know they already know something. Im gonna start bringing water balloons to class and throwing 'em at people who can't SHUT UP!!! :chuckle

oh and btw....can y'all quit tappin and clickin your pens!!!!! :angthts:

feel free to add your frustrations, and what should be done with these people!

OMG!!!!! And I thought that the only "know it all" students were in my class when I was in school. Most of the time, they had "the look" and you could ID them on sight. Sometimes, they would fool you.

I understand that class discussions and student interactions are an important in grades, but I always thought they should have shock collars around their necks, and when they get stirred up, give them a good zap.

As an older student...I have noticed that the "will you just shut up" looks usually come from the younger students.

The beauty of being an older student...is we don't really care if the question we ask is "acceptable" to the rest of the class or not...if we need it answered, well ask it. If I have 1, 5, or 20 for that class period.

I actually missed a test question on a procedure I saw a physician do incorrectly....and assumed it was done correctly...the situation popped up on a test and I missed it. It was a lesson learned...what you see isn't always how it's supposed to be done.

Sometimes everyone that has/used to work at a facility have a very difficult time grasping certain concepts b/c you get conflicted on the "NCLEX" hospital versus what you do every day.

I know that the LPN students in our class, struggle with this every exam. They always say that the tests would be easier if they were taking it with a fresh perspective.

Other student's questions also help me a lot. Yes, sometimes I think they are silly---but they aren't silly to the student who is asking them.

I think everyone needs to develop a tolerance and patience for their classmates and I think students who make others feel bad about topics they bring up/questions they ask (and yes, we hear the "groans" and exaggerated breathing when we start talking...don't think we can't hear it)...are immature.

I have noticed this at my school: So far only the quiet ones have flunked out. All of us "question" folks are not only passing, but we also have the better grades in the class.

That isn't by accident.

I agree we all need to have tolerance for our fellow students. The scoffs and groans have kept me from opening my mouth until Tuesday - and shut me up very quickly. And I'm pretty sure I have some decent questions.

What gets me giving the look, though, is the rudeness of other students talking and talking and talking when the teacher is talking and answering questions. When I was getting my first degree, I never experienced such rudeness in any of my classes. But it seems as if in my nursing school, disrespect for the teachers and other students is the standard.

If the rudeness and immaturity I see out of my fellow students is what I will see in the workplace from them, I hope and pray I am never a patient in their care.
