Yes, there are no stupid questions, but there is such a thing as stupid interuptions and questions that don't pertain to the material.

The people who are rambling about life stories or experiences with the disease annoy me because they are taking away from my chance to learn the material.

Hey Guys, What do you think about students that ANSWER the question you are asking the instructor, before he or she has a chance to? That happens in our class with one person and she is never called on it! I'd like to say something, but she is quite overbearing.

Oh, the joys of nursing school. :) I gradutated a little over a year ago, and I remember the sort of people you're talking about...the one's who ask so many questions (obvious ones, at that), that they add about 20 minutes to each class period. Been there, and it stinks, I know.

Just hang in there, though. After graduation you don't have to see those people anymore, unless you have a craving for irritating habits and incesantly clicking pens. :) Plus, you get to be a nurse, and make people's lives better with the knowledge you've gained, and the character you've had. Bonus!

I guess what I'm really trying to say, is that when I was in school, I thought of how much those people bugged me, and equated how I responded to them, even in my thoughts, with how I would respond to suffering patients...even the irritating ones. :) It made it a little easier to forgive them.

In my RN class now, I'm looking for the next "It's All About Me." So far, I've got 2 candidates who are doing dueling "kiss up" to the teacher....Front row, right in front of the slide screen, bringing the teacher water at break, (even when she had a half full bottle already) constant "oh, yes...absolutely..." to the point where the guy beside me leaned over and asked, "Is this the Stepford Wives nursing class?"

The stepford wives that is SOOOO funny!!! It sounds like we might be in the same class with the same person lmao. We have one just like it that I've been in classes with for the last year and a half. Unfortunately, 2 of the classes were psychology and of course every psychological dysfunction we discussed happened to her family. I tell you, I would be really really embarassed to admit 1/2 the stuff in a public classroom she did. Anyway, in NS we now call her BOB. Partly because of her initials and the other part because she bobs her head up and down like a chicken in full agreement with whatever the teacher says. This is during the WHOLE class, not just specific points. I swear if her neck doesn't hurt at the end of lecture.

LMAO, anyway, I dont usually get involved in these bashing threads but that stepford wives comment was just too dang funny!!!!

oh and p.s. coltsgrl...you have every right to vent. I think we all would agree that we would rather see frustrations taken out here then on the floor of your clinicals :))

ROFL! Yup, I've seen those, too. Come to think of it, the "kiss up twins" do that a lot too. I'll have to tell the guy beside me we have two additional "Bobs" in class....he happens to be named Bob!

Ok guys - please do not personalize this topic - (seems to somewhat of a sore subject). Lets debate the topic but skip the personalization. Thanks everyone.

I am hopeful that my NS will not have as bad of a problem with this. During the initial orientation with the Director of Health Sciences, she went through her spiel/powerpoint presentation and then had a Q&A period. If any of the questions had been covered and already asked once, her answer tended to be, I covered that already, next time please pay closer attention. I sat there applauding her and hoping that the rest of the educators were as direct and firm as she was.

coltsgrl....

So far, I'm feeling pretty lucky about my classmates this semester. Last semester was pure hell and I left every lecture wanting to scream at the person to can it.

So far though...if we have one of those people in my section, they are in the Lecture Interruptor closet for now.

Maybe you should do what I do for telemarketers that won't take no for an answer. Get yourself a whistle. Stick in in the pocket of your lab coat. The next time Susy Know-it-All starts one of her stories, pull out your whistle and blow really loud. Bet it shuts her up!

So I just had my very first day of nursing school and it was all of us together and there was already one that had to ask 100 questions that were either already answered or common sense would have told her they would be answered in tomorrows presentations! :banghead:

Oh and 1 of my friends was sitting behind her and watched her write down a description of all the professors as they introduced themselves. I don't just mean names and what they teach but PHYSICAL descriptions

I'm all about class participation but this isn't even lectures yet just intros to the program....

The answer is YES!!! There is also a woman in our class who failed her 2nd semester of theory, so she joined our 2nd semester class last semester - SHE SITS ON HER DESK! She's all the way on the other side of the room, but I still catch a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye and it BUGS ME!

But, I can also see the other side of the person who has something to say about everything - I was probably that person my 1st semester, because I had just recently lost my father and I had ALOT of issues with the nursing care he received at the hospital. I was also working in an ER, so I had seen alot and related some of my stories in class, so I'm SURE there were many of my classmates that were probably wanting to say..."Would you SHUT UP???" lol :imbar

You should have been there for our discussion of Herpes in Pharm today. I spoke way too soon when I said we didn't have one of "those" students so far. Geeeeeezzzzzz!!!!! He told the whole class about how his sister got into internet dating, contracted herpes, then passed them to her daughter. I'm like WOAH...I bet his sister would be so thrilled to know that he spilled the beans to everyone and at graduation, if she comes, everyone is gonna be like "Oh yeah....I heard about your herpes!!"

Girl I know what you mean. I just graduated nursing school, and we had one of them that would let you know everytime they spoke, that they also "worked on the truck" This student was also an EMT, and hearing this once or twice was fine, but not everytime they spoke about a subject. It finally just started being funny, and everybody would expect to hear this phrase at least once a day during lecture, even the instructors waited for him to say it. Good luck with your future.
