EVANGELISM IN WARD

Nurses Spirituality

Published

This is a very important area in the christaindom..

We should try to spread the gospel in our various ward as nurses

It is clear that you are not in the US. Here it is very inappropriate to evangelize to the patients. We are respectful of their beliefs but do not try to preach about our own.

The quote above is a very nice way to say No, NO, a THOUSAND TIMES NO.

My own thoughts are .... keep your predatory religious practices to the little cross around your neck. Let others ask before you preach.

I will like to say thank you to all those who commented on my recent post.

Thanks for your advice.

Ummmm, no, we are NOT Saviors and we are not saints. That is not our role as healthcare providers. Scary things have happened when people assigned that kind of power to themselves and their roles in nursing and medicine.

We are health care professionals there to provide nursing care as required and ordered.

Evangelism on the job is completely inappropriate

Based on the OP's other post, I'm a little worried about the OP. Hopefully I am just misinterpreting .

In the other post, the OP states,

"I mean the joy in playing the role of a saviour makes me feel confident an strong."

The OP goes on to report being under a lot of stress and not being himself lately. Along with this post, I am hoping this is just a very religious person vs someone in distress.

OP are you okay?

This.

oynz, is there anti-christian violence where you live?

Oyinz, it may be helpful to put in your profile that you are in Nigeria.

Spirituality and Nursing are often highly connected, and helps drive some nurses to do what they do. Here, someone may use the word "witness," which doesn't necessarily mean trying to go out and convert anyone, but to simply state the facts of what ones faith means to them.

Here in the states we have a very diverse population, and we strive to honor each persons belief without trying to convert them. Rather, we support them in their faith, and connect them to the proper support system for their situation. When someone is sick and stuck in a bed, they do not want to deal with someone trying to impose their faith on them.

I hope this helps.

I just clicked on this thread because the subject was ALL IN CAPS and I was wondering who decided to shout the thread title here.

:wideyed:

My next reaction was to be repelled by the arrogance of the OP that they think they have all the answers to life's big questions and need to cram them down anyone's throat who didn't request such answers and can't get away by virtue of being a patient.

My third reaction was that this was a troll stirring the pot.

My final assessment is that there is some kind of cultural/language barrier involved in someone posting from Nigeria and that I need not spend any more time and energy on something that I can't contribute to in a positive way.

My first reaction to this question was that the way the OP is acting, I can see why there might be violence.

Some countries still use wards. The UK is one, I believe. Combined with the spelling of "saviour" in OP's other post, I believe he is not from the US.

The OP's profile states he is in or from Nigeria. Things are very different there. Also describes himself as "student nurse" with 2 years experience. Most people consider your experience to start after you have graduated; "education" and "experience" are generally considered 2 different things. As far as evangelizing in the workplace, nope. Not allowed.

The OP's profile states he is in or from Nigeria.

That part was added much more recently than when the original post was made.

If the OP is in distress like some posters suggested, then I think they could become even more disturbed by a thread like this one since not all of us are qualified to be advising them. Some people who are overbearing with religion are having a mental breakdown and some others are predatory and know how to choose their victims. It's important to know what category the OP falls into.

I do think though that turning everyone into Christians is equal to prescribing the same pill for everyone and could be dangerous.

If others feel accepted, valued and safe around you this is the easiest way to heal them.
