Elizabeth Warren says doctors, nurses don't treat black women same way as other women

Published

Is it bash medical professions month and I just didn't realize it?

Don't get me wrong I do believe that prejudice exists but according to Ms. Warren, the only concievable reason for the increased materials deaths in African American women is due to doctors and nurses being prejudice. This is absolutely ludicrous.

I swear every time there's a subject on Black, Native American, slavery etc, someone Irish comes along as though they're the first, last, and only victims of wrongdoing in 'Murica. Not on AN but I see it all over the internet and hear it in real life. I fail to see why it's a go to response. All I can do is sigh.

Many of you seem ignorant of her past. Look it up. It isn't pretty and a lot of Native American people don't like her because of it. As a person of color, I can't overlook her actions or those of Kamala Harris. They have been inexcusable.

I am not ignorant of Senator Warren.

She is an elected, US Senator, who is trying to use her position within the body which she serves, to highlight a huge problem in this country.

To ignore her message, because she is the messenger, is ignorant.

Now you’re getting the point...it doesn’t really matter....so maybe if everyone realized that, we wouldn’t need to hand out participation ribbons......maybe we could just concentrate on being the best nurses possible....maybe people in general could learn to “manage” themselves, old school, instead of feeling entitled....who knows...maybe....

She is trying to use the suffering of black women to garner the black community to get elected. She doesn't actually give a damn about what I, as a black woman, go through on a daily basis.

Dems have gotten so used to getting the black vote, it is really disturbing to me.

And not only that but the Irish were indentured servants. That is completely different from genocide (which wiped out millions of Native Americans) and generations of cattle slavery (which is what my African ancestors suffered).

I even had an Irish slavemaster rape my African ancestress, and I have the DNA to prove it.

My ancestors have been in America since at least the late 1600s and my miniscule amt of NA ancestors thousands of years before that. Irish people are very new to this land, and I wish white Americans would stop trying to claim that they are more American than anyone else. It is ludicrous.

Wrong. It's called the "I don't give a damn about your people's plight so I'm going to dismiss it and act like my people had it worse, to hell with yours" way of thinking.

It's dismissive and disrespectful. Also, highly ignorant and condescending. People need to stop that. A tragedy is a tragedy, none of it is a contest. It's all bad.

She is only using this for political reasons. If she and most of the other elected officials really care about these types of issues they would have done something about a long time ago. Where was she and the rest of the Democrats when the had control of the 2 houses and the White House. They didn’t do a thing to help the poor improve themselves only to keep them down so they would continue to vote for them.

Would go a long way to solve a lot of problems. When did a lot of our mental health issues start increasing along with school shootings, increase in suicide etc? When we started to not let kids learn failure at a young age. When they become teenagers we dope them up and they have no copping skills.

I agree.

I was simply giving the behavior a label, that I have seen a lot.

Suffering is suffering.

There should be no contest, when it comes to abuse, racism, homophobia, etc.

It certainly doesn't make me feel good, when nurses, who are in a position to effect change, instead engage in such antics, and play political games.

How do we expect the general population to respond, when nurses respond with such pettiness?

Senator Warren was not elected until 2013. The 2 years that Democrats "sort of" had a majority in both houses was 2008-2009. I say sort of because Senator Kennedy's illness and Sen. Franken's disputed election results left the Democrats without a veto-proof majority. And congress was also dealing with the worst recession since 1929. Warren worked to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in an effort to rein in predatory lending. The Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, refused to approve her appointment to be the head of the CFPB, where she could have done a great deal to help people.

I get it that you are not a fan of Senator Warren. But I find it irritating when people repeated unsubstantiated talk-points as if they are facts.

When you make a claim, it is on you to provide proof of your claim, not on those who disagree with you. Just saying one can just look it up is meaningless and leaves your point without merit.

And what was done during that time? Nothing, just like when the Republicans had control.

Another unsubstantiated claim, yawn.

Economy in free fall turned around to steady growth, health insurance for millions, 2 women approved for the Supreme Court.

Exactly what would you have Congress do? Pass a law to let children know failure at an early age? Is there evidence to back that up? Because there is evidence that early childhood education and proper nutrition do help children with learning and resilience. Nah, it's just easier to sit back and point fingers.
