i was so appalled to hear from my co-worker that easter day is not a holiday pay because lot of patients are jewish? excuse me but i am catholic and many of my co-workers are also catholic. eastern is a big day in catholic religion just like hannuka is a big holiday for jewish religion. are they going to pay us a holiday pay on hannuka???? umm nooooooooooooooooo :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire what a joke!! they dont know how to treat us right!! :down::down::down::down::down:

i should clarify no one i know gets paid for easter.

everyone gets paid for easter just not holiday pay as easter is not an official us holiday it is a day of religious observence. good friday is a holiday but not a major us holiday.

I work for a Catholic hospital and do not get paid for Easter. Wish I did. But I knew the deal when I signed on.

Every job I've ever worked clearly spelled out what was a holiday and what was not. I've never worked anywhere in 35 years of full time employment that considered Easter a holiday. I've always used a vacation day to have it off.

easter sunday is a holiday at our facility. we rotate holiday's and get paid/pto for it.

I work for a PA county nursing home, and we get all the Federal Holidays paid (All the "bank" holidays). Easter is not one of our paid holidays, but Good Friday is. I believe also that the religious affiliation of our residents have no bearing on which holidays are paid and which ones are not (I think that may fall into a bias situation for the staff). Plus, an extra benefit for working the holiday, we get 2.5X our base rate if we work the holiday (only 8hrs, straight pay if off the holiday). Makes it look a little different when you have to work on a holiday :wink2:.

Nope, Easter is not a paid holiday.

I actually worked 7pm to 7am on Saturday (Easter Eve) and totally forgot it was Easter.

I personally don't think any religious holiday should be qualified for extra pay, and most of them are not with the exception of Christmas.

I get holiday pay for Easter, but we have a Catholic affiliation. They are self-insured and don't cover my OC pills, so I figure it evens out. There are bigger fish to fry in this world, and I am suprised this issue even came up.

No one I know gets paid for Eastern or Western for that matter outside of religous facilities.

Getting paid for religious holidays wouldn't be cost effective because if you pay for catholic holidays, then you have to pay for jewish holidays, and buddist holidays, and islamic holidays, and native american holidays, and pagan holidays, and so on, and so on.......

The companies would go bankrupt just from holiday pay. Therefore, most companies pay for legal holidays only.

*IF* I were to get as burned up as you over not getting *MY* holiday off with pay, it should be Passover. Or Rosh Hashana, or Yom Kippur, arguably as important to a Jew as Easter is to a Christian. I don't see a dime for working those, either.

I'd love to get paid for Rosh Hashana or Passover. I don't believe I'd take any amount of pay to work on Yom Kippur, though. It should be easy enough to schedule someone else on that day, at least where I live. :)

You worked for free? Or just not time and a half? Last I checked, I got paid for working that day.

We work Easter Sunday when it is on our weekend. It's been like that at every hospital I've worked for - from inner city to suburban.

The only place where the "there are a lot of Jewish people therefore it's straight time on Easter Sunday" theory might fly is in Israel. It baffles me that the OP and her coworker are so quick to blame the Jewish community surrounding the hospital for the administration not giving time and a half on Easter Sunday. I really don't think that the so-called "world wide Jewish consipiracy" is at work here.

if it burns you up that much, go work at a facility that recognizes eastern as a holiday.

not all of us are catholic or christian. instead of getting your panties in a wad, why don't you ask one of your non-christian co-workers to work for you on your important religious holidays? i always offer to work christmas, since it doesn't make much of a difference to me. i also signed up for an extra shift on easter sunday. i do, however, expect my back to be scratched when there is a day special to me that i would like off.

for what it's worth, i didn't get paid holiday pay on easter, channuka, eid, the equinox, or st patrick's day (irish all the way, baby). what a rip off, man. someone has to burn for this.
