or a job anywhere in the government; they even get "holiday pay" for elections.
Not true everywhere....I work Election Day, not a holiday in my state, nor is President's day,Veteran's Day or Columbus Day. However, I had ALL of those off when I worked for the state of New Jersey. No wonder they have such a budget mess! :)
[ OT: Government employees certainly do get some benefits that don't often exist elsewhere anymore. Pensions, long term disability, sabbatical, unlimited accrual of sick time...I've never gotten those anywhere else. ]

My dad is a certified electrician---does stoplights, underground wiring, ect. he does not get paid to go vote. The men that work for Caltrans do (a california goverment paid position)
I've worked in Catholic hospitals and not gotten holiday pay for Easter. Hallowee, yes, but not Easter. (Don't ask. I haven't been able to figure that one out, either.)
I've also worked in other Christian-based hospitals and not gotten pay for Easter. It has nothing to do with the local regious population.
As has been said above, if we gave holiday pay for every religious holiday out there that is important to someone, we might as well just give everyone, everywhere a 1 1/2 times pay raise. Heeeeyyyy.
Venting is nice; blaming another religious group for your unfair persecution is not.
True enough.
Christians often claim persecution as they see their priviledges removed, such as school prayer, Christian artifacts removed from public buildings, public workers being told to say "Happy Holidays" and not Merry Christmas, etc. This is nothing new, and very common, so my underwear stays intact when I read such things. :lol2:

Now that's a great idea....no holidays.....we negotiate our own days off to fit our personal beliefs.....but we all get a big fat raise. w00t!
I do get holiday pay for Easter, but what I'd really like to see is holiday pay for Mother's Day.
At least when I worked LTC, that was the worst day of the year. Seemed like all the kids from across the country would decide that Mother's Day was the one day of the year that they could manage to see their Mom.
I always hated dealing with all the "long-lost" children who acted all indignant and wanted to know why mom wasn't walking, or talking, or feeding herself.

I work for a Catholic institution-Good Friday is the holiday observed. If it is your weekend to work and Easter is that weekend, well, you work Easter. (no holiday pay)
