Dropped test

I meant to write this in the general nursing forum. I mustve accidently wrote it in the pre nursing forum.I had the same ap2 teacher and micro teacher both classes she dropped a test grade which boost our grade. Now I'm wondering if I'm really able to take on nursing. My question is did your AP or micro teacher drop a test or curve test to improve your classes grade

Our micro teacher dropped your lowest test grade.

That doesn't happen in my nursing classes...BUT I took my science courses years ago(grad May 2005 with my BA in Sociology)....Just study hard and you should do ok. Im a solid B student with a few A's thrown in for good measure :)

My AP1&2, and Micro teacher both dropped the lowest test grade, but if your scores are usually about the same then it really doesnt matter. Even if you did bad on one test, you should know why you did bad and correct yourself for future tests. Oh and both of my teachers curved also, but only if you were close to the next grade. For example if I had an 89 average, it would be curved to an A-, but if I had an 87 it would stay as a B+. I am starting nursing school in the fall and I am nervous also, questioning whether I will be able to hack it or not. Nervous or not I am going to give it 100%, just like when I started my pre req's I told myself I had no other choice but to get A's because that is what is needed to get into the program, and that is what I did. While in the nursing program I am going to have the same attitude, I am going to give it my all and become the best nurse that I can be, there is no other option. My natural science classes weren't just for students going into nursing, there were dental hygiene, funeral science, surgical tech..etc. But only the nursing students had to pass the courses with a 83% or better. I think that's why the instructors gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities and we could drop the lowest test score.

Nope!! Our A&P and Micro were taught by the same guy and he was tough. They called him the gatekeeper, b/c if you couldn't get past him, you were not going to make it in nursing school!! He was very fair, but tough. No curving on his watch.

To be fair though, when my school required nursing students to have a 80% pass rate, yet the rest of the student body had to meet a 78% pass rate, the school told him he had to make the switch and grade nursing students accordingly. He refused on the grounds that he's a GEN ED instructor and it's not just nursing students who sit in his classroom. That really meant we were cut no slack with him b/c the pass rate was "only" 78%

Our school a couple of years ago couldn't make sense of the grades that students were given in pre-reqs and distribution classes, so they made the admission decision objective: Science pre-reqs count for 40% of your competitive score, and your TEAS V score counts for 60%.

If you had a 3.5 average in your science pre-reqs and 80 on your TEAS V, you'd have a cometetive score of (3.5 x 10) + (0.6 x 80) = a competitive score of 83, which would probably get you in.

To answer your actual question, most of our professors dropped the lowest test or quiz and gave extra credit. I think you had to really not study to get less than a B.

You were in the same boat as most everyone else as far as test dropping is concerned.

I'm pretty sure, given how long that they've been at it, that the nursing program admissions folks know all about grade curving, test dropping, and extra credit. In these times of vast grade inflation, you can be sure that most people are in the same boat you and I are in.

Are you saying that you feel that you don't know the material you studied? Then study it some more. You don't have to be taking a class to crack an A&P, microbiology, chemistry, or statistics book. In fact, there is a lot of information (explanations and exercises) available on the internet for all those things — for free.

As I said, leave the question of whether you're qualified to the admissions committee.

I have finished all of me pre and co reqs for the RN program and I've never had an instructor drop or curve a test. My school takes no prisoners lol.

I don't remember any grades being in dropped in A&P...I think maybe we could replace our lowest grade with our cumulative final grade, at most. Zero grade dropping/replacement in micro.

That's the beauty of standardized testing. People can cheat their way to A's, receive grade curves, hunt down the world's easiest professor, etc, but a difficult entrance exam is great equalizer.
